Road Work around the Capitol District

They have a good part of 8th Street dug up, and I wonder if that is more related to the Children's Museum or the streetcar. A streetcar stop is planned right in front of the future Children's Museum, so maybe it's both.

Its storm sewer work, per the info shared to local residents (I own a condo right next to this work). Not specifically related to either streetcar or OCM relo, but the influx of roads/concrete in that area changing runoff patterns, and ensure the sewers have the capacity to handle the water...

Anyone know the timeline for this project? Next weekend is the corporate cycling challenge and obviously it wont be open by then. But wondering if the roads will be opened before basketball season.

Tried to get to the pedestrian bridge from the Gene Leahy Mall this morning and had to go west to 13th and then north to Cuming/Abbott Drive and then east to Riverfront Drive.

Did they remove all the brick at the intersection of 10th and Capitol? Can't tell from the city cam and I haven't been by there since it reopened but it looks like they just used concrete.

Not sure what they put back, but what was there was not real brick, it was concrete pavers. Real brick is clay fired in a kiln and last for decades or more, like the old market. All that "Fake Brick" was already crumbling, so I wouldn't be sad if it was removed.

Yeah thats true, I did like the decorative look though. Too bad they didn't do a stained concrete but that would be tough if a section ever needs to be repaired.

They also used to have the pavers on the pedestrian corners, but those were in really bad shape and were torn out about 5 years ago.
