New Tropicana Field concept dumps on stadium-focused redevelopment

Post by Uffda »

A new development company plan for area where the Tropicana Field currently is located.

Massive $6.8 billion redevelopment of the Tropicana Field site proposed by group of local leaders

Housing is a central component, with over 1,900 affordable, workforce, and senior units planned across all phases: 863 affordable, 618 senior affordable, and 444 workforce. The proposal also includes 1,543 new hotel rooms.

Cultural and entertainment spaces feature prominently, including a 4,000-seat indoor music hall, a 1,500-seat outdoor amphitheater, a new state-of-the-art performance theater, and dedicated space for the Woodson African American Museum of Florida.

Education and workforce development are also emphasized, with The Superintendent School training future construction leaders and The HORUS Academy offering trade introductions for youth along with advanced training for adults and small businesses.

Is there much on what the stadium will look like and details under this proposal? With a new owner do the locals feel this is more likely to get to the finish line?

Does this feel like a long term solution? Why I am asking is that it seems like from the beginning the two things that have been mentioned for their low attendance are, the location is difficult for those in Tampa, and the stadium.

The one time I was there (meaning Tropicana Field) a few years ago, we were staying in Oldsmar. It was pretty easy from there. Actually I really liked that area because it was fairly easy to get to Tampa (we went to a Lightning game as well and loved it even though that's not our team) and to St Pete and Clearwater.

I believe the article is saying there will be no stadium in these latest plans. The new Rays owner is looking at a couple potential sites in Tampa. At least that’s what I understand from following the situation.

They just need to move to a city that wants to support an MLB team.

Sorry I haven’t been in here in awhile. No definitely location has been selected officially by the new owners. They are supposedly looking at a couple of locations, one would put it almost across the street from Raymond James Stadium.
