Not a new article, but it feels like the drug store closing are accelerating around Omaha.

Second that - they probably only have 2 or 3 in that area within 6-12 blocks. I'm surprised they haven't tried to expand in the area yet. Where are people buying their CBD, Kratom and other essential life-saving products?

Do you think when they open a "new" store they bring in old fixtures and other items so that they don't look too nice?

I feel like they pretty much sit empty until someone tears them down....with a few exceptions.

My CVS is closing in Bellevue across from the Walgreens. That used to be a Krispty Kreme there and they tore it down for the CVS. The CVS has looked in bad shape in recent years. So, it's not surprising me this is happening....but, I'm required to utilize CVS for maintenance meds and cannot move across the street to Walgreens.

It's not a huge deal, just a little hassle, but now I have to drive a few miles further to the CVS inside Target on 370 and will have to go in vs. utilizing drive up.

Something feels wrong with forcing people to utilize one pharmacy when they are closing left and right.

If you want to have some say on at least one drugstore about what is next when that day comes, here is your opportunity.

You can buy and lease back the new Walgreens location in Gretna with a 15-year lease. If you have an extra $5,888,000 lying around, this may be for you!

That one on 64th and Ames has been sitting empty for as long as I can remember. At least 30 years.

The New York Times had an article about how so many vacant drug stores aren’t being filled in the city because they signed long, lucrative leases that Landlords don’t see the need to fill the space. It’s a bit annoying right now

Are the leases still active even if the store closes? Or is it that the landlords made so much, they aren't in need of getting more return on the land?

Yep, leases still active even when the store closes. They were quite lucrative too.

If the owner is still getting paid and the lease is in effect, they have little incentive to do any new recruiting. If anything, the leasor should be looking for an acceptable subleaser or replacement.
