Parking Access

Post by Brad »

I know in a perfect world, most of use would like to see all the surface lots in downtown go away, however since they are not disappearing fast enough...

The lots that really bug me are the lots along 11th street between the Old Market and the Mall. They all have access from the Alley, yet the both have multiple driveways along 11th street. Couldn't they all use the alley ways as their access and open up several more parking spots along 11th street?

I agree with you on those parking lots Brad....there is a picture on Omaha by Design's website showing what the parking lots would look like if they were replaced with some buildings similar to the current ones in the Old Market.
Here is the link to the website: (I am not sure how to post the picture)

Wow that would look great! It's so exciting seeing a lot of the empty space in the OM slowly get filled with mixed use buildings.

Maybe it has been up for awhile and I never noticed it, but I saw that there is a for sale sign on the parking lot directly south of the Visitors' and Conventions Bureau. It would be great to see that lot sold and developed. Driving by on 10th St could look so much more impressive.

Not to derail this thread, but it says the current owner of this lot is "JOHN Q HAMMONDS HOTELS TWO" based out of Cincinnati. A quick google takes you here: http://jqhhotels.com/ Same company that did the Embassy Suites down the street.

Perhaps there was hope to build a hotel here at one point?
