You may remember the sounds produced by the days of dial-up internet. Most people don’t use dial-up anymore, but the folks in Omaha traffic engineering department hear that sound every day.
But the traffic engineers are about to leave the 1980s dial-up model behind and jump into a new century with a state-of-the-art system that will change the way Omaha residents get around town.

I thought these two paragraphs were especially interesting:
“Each of these signals can talk to each other and say, ‘Hey, I'm sending 100 cars your way,’” said Pfitzer.
...
And if issues do pop up, the traffic signals can self-diagnose and ask for help.

You would be surprised at the numbers of companies that use dial up to dial into servers and whatnot.iamjacobm wrote:Astonishing that we still have a city department using dial-up...

I must admit I am an old fart myself but between the increasing number of old senile drivers and the badly timed traffic lights it drives me nuts to drive across this town anymore!

I agree with you on that Mr. Smucker.
The traffic has been really sluggish lately, especially on 72nd street between Pacific and Maple after 5:00 p.m. Can't speak for other parts of town, but my theory is 72nd St. traffic sucks because of the following:
1. People are taking other routes because of construction on Dodge.
2. Lights are not timed for 72nd traffic.
3. Increased traffic from new people working/living in Ak Village.
4. People looking at smart phones while they should be paying attention to driving.
