Sounds a lot like the bullish!t reasoning the CEO gave when Pepperjax decided to move their HQ’s from Omaha to Denver ...

The pension crisis in Illinois and Chicago's declining population point to a city that has already reached its event horizon, it will be fascinating to watch as one of the world's great cities dies a slow death over the next few decades, nothing will save it. That made the ConAgra move so off putting, they didn't even go somewhere good, they went to a once great city that is terminally ill. California looks a little better on paper, but for all of his faults, Moonbeam has been the adult in the room of California governance, all the great weather and scenery in the world might not be enough to keep the golden state afloat.

Most of those leaving Chicago are middle class, working class citizens from rough areas. Young and educated populations are replacing them, but not quite at a 1:1 ratio. The nationwide decline in Latino immigrants has also led to fewer new residents. Downtown and the north side are as booming as ever with new office buildings, apartments, and condos with expensive rents.

The pension crisis has been difficult for Illinois, but measures are being put in place to fix it. The political process there can be difficult and change comes at a snail's pace, but to say that "nothing can save it" is absurd. Are taxes high? Higher than Omaha. Is the city dying? No. Not at all. Population growth and tax rate doesn't correlate with the health of the city.

People have been predicting the downfall of California for decades and they have yet to be right. The crime and pollution were supposed to take it down years ago. Those have since been lessened and now the cost of living and doing business is supposed to wreak havoc on it. It's easy to make this prediction from the outside, but, to quote Lucile Bluth "I'd rather be dead in California than alive in Arizona" - its attraction and, in many cases, superiority have been solidified and as society advances I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Here's the thing...for the most part you can locate the headquarters of a food chain pretty much anywhere. Headquarters staff=PR, HR, Finance, Purchasing, etc. Unless your company has a very specific need that requires specialized talent and a lot of it you really don't need to be in California, Colorado, Chicago or any other city. Moving from Denver to California will help drive sustainable growth??? Competition for top talent??? Seriously???
If you can't recruit talent to Denver it isn't Denver's fault. It's yours.

ConAgra was declining not because of Omaha. It was declining because of bad decisions on the part of corporate.

Both companies spent or are spending millions to move. That doesn't drive sustainable growth. It wastes money. Period. And IN MY OPINION it is solely because the head of the company is a punk who grew up spoiled and now loves his own publicity. I'd have felt better if they just said "We got a huge incentive to move & we're greedy." I'd believe that before the bs reasons given.
