Omaha council members hear support, criticism for proposed 2023 budget

Omaha city council members had a chance to hear from the public about the city’s proposed budget and some shared concerns about the spending. About a dozen people voiced their frustration over how the city plans to divvy up $474 million. There was certainly more opposition to the budget than support from the crowd gathered at the city-county building Tuesday night.

The one issue they all pointed out is the lack of community input."Overall, our taxpayer group awards this budget a ‘B’ rating,” said Doug Kagan with Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom. But despite that 'B’ rating, Kagan supports the way Omaha plans to spend its money next year. Harsher criticism came from people like Noeme Gilbert about what's not in the budget.

…. The council votes on Sept. 3.
