'Expanding all the time': Building boom at UNL
$800 million investment in nearly 500 projects
University of Nebraska students return to big cranes dotting the Lincoln campus skyline, several sidewalk detours and construction orange, the new red. "It's pretty crazy. You know, the University, it's like expanding all the time," said Joshua Thompson a Construction Management major. There are as many as 500 building projects on the Lincoln campus alone with investments topping nearly $800 million.
Even Brooke Hay, NU's Assistant Vice-president of Facilities Planning and Capitol Programs said it's kind of hard to believe."That's just an amazing amount of investment going on. At the same time," Hay said. She said the boom mostly comes from private funds, like the $160 million "Go Big" expansion of North Stadium. And the $97 million Kiewit Hall engineering facility.

500 projects?? They must include small maintenance items in that or something, right?

That's my guess. The article says that half of the $800 million in projects is coming from $400 million for deferred maintenance projects.Louie wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 12:39 pm 500 projects?? They must include small maintenance items in that or something, right?
But lawmakers also approved $100 million of state funding for University projects system-wide as well allowing the University to secure a $400 million bond for deferred maintenance projects, which they got at a record low fixed rate.
