Rebuilding America Grant
Sec. Pete Buttigieg says Nebraska will 'benefit' economically from jobs created with grant money going to I-80 and Eppley Airfield
Nebraska's getting more than $20 million in federal dollars to rebuild a key piece of interstate, and more federal money is also heading to Omaha's Eppley Airport. Interstate 80 is expected to see daily traffic increase by 40% over the next couple of decades, so the money will go a long way. The Infrastructure for Rebuilding America Grant, a fund that was increased by 50% as part of Biden's bipartisan infrastructure law, will focus on a 9-mile stretch just west of Kearney.
Construction will start in the spring of 2026 and should wrap by the end of 2027. The total cost of the project is $35.3 million The remaining $14 million will be split between federal highway funds and state transportation funds.
The Millard Airport will also get $293,000, which will go toward reconstruction of the area between taxiways and hangars.
