Approved development raises concerns for neighbors



In Elkhorn off 209th and Blondo is 173 acres of land now planned to become a new subdivision with 380 homes. As Elkhorn continues to expand and grow, it's important to remember what used to be to know what is now and understand how neighbors feel about it.

They accept that this land is now fertile ground for a new community. “You know it is exciting you know you can't stop progress, but my concern is we need to do it smart,” said Klassen.Land Developers tell me they plan on closing on the land at the end of this month. They'll then go to the city for preliminary plat approval and plan on moving dirt starting this summer.

The City of Omaha/Douglas County Should Continue Blondo Street and Connect Skyline (Grid Pattern) any deviation to this causes traffic issues (Atlanta). Examples of this deviation that are happening now are mostly in Sarpy County (Giles at 180th/192nd) where there are already complaints about traffic - along with roundabouts.

But I know, West Omaha problems and commuting. But without Suburbs, you don't have a City, and without the taxes you don't have a thriving City (think of St. Louis Proper - it cannot grow out of St. Louis/St. Louis County).

I've wondered why they don't connect west of 204th with the Blondo street that's back there. This whole area they want to develop is kind of buried and doesn't seem to have great access. But it seems like there's a lot of elevation changes where Blondo would go that is probably why they don't consider it.

Either way, Blondo doesn't go through beyond that and likely never will as there's the river there and I doubt they'll build a bridge there.
