It will be located in the former Muchacho’s space at 1258 South 13th Street and will offer a variety of tamales and agave-based cocktails. Masa Luna is a sister business to Fizzy’s Fountain & Liquors

Masa Luna Tamaleria has opened in the former Muchacho’s space at 1258 South 13th Street in Little Bohemia. Masa Luna is limited to customers age 21 and over. The menu includes handmade masa for tamales and al pastor tacos from the trompo. Masa Luna also offers “a progressive bar program based on additive free, sustainable agave-based spirits.” The primary owners are Carlos Cuevas and Gillian Cromwell Cuevas. Co-owners are Noah and Katie Mock, who also own Nite Owl and Fizzy’s Fountain & Liquors.

What is the logic for only being open to 21 and over? This is not a nightclub. When it was Munchachos, there were plenty of people eating as a family with kids when I was there. I don't see why you would want to keep that group away.

To each their own. As you said, it must work for them. I am just puzzled why you would want to keep out part of the potential customer base when it does not seem necessary for the type of business. Especially as tight as the restaurant business can be.

To each their own. As you said, it must work for them. I am just puzzled why you would want to keep out part of the potential customer base when it does not seem necessary for the type of business. Especially as tight as the restaurant business can be.

The 21+ rule instantly makes this a more desirable date/night out destination. No tripping over kids, screaming babies, or rat teens messing around. This approach is working quite well for Nite Owl and Fizzy's, and I imagine the same will work here. More emphasis on alcohol sales and upscale cocktails will more than offset the kids meal they miss out on. Muchachos failed so I think switching up the philosophy is not a bad idea.
