I noticed that two more are being added on the corner of 15th and Dodge.
The large Buffalo will appear to be running throught the southeast corner of the parking garage much like the geese that appear to fly throught the southwest corner of the garage. The other is another buffalo calf but it will be a complete stand alone sculpture.

They were only positioning the pieces this morning so I don't expect them to be installed for at least a week as the site is prepped for their permanent installation. So, they may not be their anymore today.
It's going to look very cool!!! :D

Looks like these are going in today, they are working on them at 1, grinding on the stone where the one buffalo will be running out of the garage. Also see some sidewalk pavers pulled up and a mat of rebar for the calfs placement I'm assuming. Should look good.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't there also going to eventually be one or two on the east side of 15th next to the old UP building? If so, I'm sure they are waiting for the demo of it before doing any install.

I think there will be a few more on that street including one on the garage side in the raised planter area.

Also, I believe there will be 1 or two more added running at the fountain.
I think the plan on one addition each year.

Latest bison statue emerges from wall

Usually:
YELLOW = Gas
RED = Cable & Telephone
BLUE = Water
ORANGE = Electricity

However they usually paint a "T" showing the extend of the line, however this one is an arrow so they might be just making where the sculpture needs to go.

A new scupture of a cowboy riding a horse while holding his hat high in the air was installed at the Wagon trail monument park. I really like this new addition, it sits on the 14th street side of the park high on the rocks above.

That statue is really cool!

As far as the Holiday Lights, they are now as far west as 20th St. on some buildings and trees DT. I don't think they had them that far last year with 16th St. being the cut off.

Holiday Lights Festival continues to grow, promote city of Omaha
UNO Gateway wrote:"Every year since [1999] we've expanded the lighting," he said. "Our ultimate goal is to light everything from Leavenworth to Capitol and from the river to 19th Street."

With the continued support of the city, Nichols is confident that the Omaha Holiday Lights Festival will eventually stand out among the competition. "We're the premiere lighting activity in the region," he said. "Where we're going is to be the premier lighting event in the country.”

Bison herd grows again

http://www.omaha.com/article/20090812/N ... 29980/1009
Steve Jordon WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:Downtown Omaha's herd of bronze bison, currently numbering eight, will gain its lead bull today.

Swedish sculptor Kent Ullberg, now of Texas, is installing his latest giant ungulate at First National Bank's Spirit of Nebraska's Wilderness outdoor sculpture garden at 16th and Dodge Streets.

In September, Utah sculptors Blair Buswell and Ed Fraughton will install two oxen-drawn covered wagons, with a dozen or so human figures and other pieces, at the bank's Pioneer Courage Park along Capitol Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets.

Although the new additions are billed as the final additions to First National's privately owned, public areas, CEO Bruce Lauritzen on Tuesday was talking with Ullberg about adding another bison.

By Oct. 1, Lauritzen said, the sculpture display will look finished, and he plans a “pause” while the economy recovers.

But by 2012, he said, it might be time to add the planned third phase to the sculpture display. It would portray a conference between American Indians and pioneers on a limestone rock outcropping.
Steve Jordon WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:Lauritzsen said he hasn't totaled up the cost of the artwork, which soon will total more than 100 pieces spread over six city blocks.
Steve Jordon WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:Ullberg said Lauritzen is to be commended for sponsoring the artwork, which is one of the world's largest related displays of bronze sculpture. Six foundries have been working on the sculptures to meet installation deadlines.

Please God no more! Haven't we got enough of this monstrosity? Every time I see the buffalo split into thirds on the corner of the building I just want to puke. (not to mention the bird on the other building with it's wings poking through)

A buffalo's a.ss sticking out the side of a building would make a great candidate for the "Visual Pollution" Photography contest.

This is fantastic news. I can't wait to get down there and see it all. I didn't know they were adding 2 more covered wagons. I also would have never guessed that this is the world's largest related displays of bronze sculpture.

Great work Mr Lauritzen.

i think the sculptures that are incorporated into the buildings are cool. i didn't realize that it was all privately funded, and i think it's a great addition to downtown. some people will think they are monstrosities, some will find them to be a suitable homage to the heritage of the area. Either way, it's good that there are people like lauritzen who want to do something extra for the community. I'm anxious to see the wagons, too!

Wow!! Thanks for sharing that Uffda! I saw the cattle drive sculpture garden in Dallas back around 1998 and thought that was pretty impressive, but this project has turned out to be more than extraordinary. I see people posing for pictures in front of the various aspects of the multi-block project, so it does attract attention from visitors too.

I hope one day this project stretches from Abbot Drive to the Bank. Then when bank customers come to town they can tell them to follow the buffalo and covered wagons to the bank. It might sound lame to people getting ready to travel, but when the cross over the bridge by abbot drive and see the skyline, they will have a whole different impression of the city.
