Riverfront Announcement
Was watching KETV this morning and they were talking about the Loess Fest this weekend. They also said they heard from CB officials that there will be a joint annoucement about the riverfront from Omaha and CB officials on June 2nd that will have people excited,

Re: Riverfront Announcement
I've heard the announcement will have details about areas beyond the riverfront in Omaha as well. Should be good!

Re: Riverfront Announcement
From the 2013 W-H article:
“A direct link between downtown Omaha and the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is inching closer to reality.
Tuesday, the Omaha City Council voted 6-1 to spend $101,000 on initial engineering work for a bridge that would be built over Riverfront Drive and the railroad tracks on the west side of the Bob Kerrey Bridge. The city will use federal funds for the rest of the approximately $500,000 engineering project.
Councilman Chris Jerram said the preliminary work will include gathering input from residents, drawing up design plans and completing environmental studies. That process, he said, should help officials get a better handle on how much the “Baby Bob” bridge would cost. Early estimates put the total at $3.8 million.”..

Re: Riverfront Announcement
I have heard the same from someone in the know as well. One aspect that they were positive about was that park renovations will go above the train tracks to really connect the river and city.OmahaJaysCU wrote: Sun May 27, 2018 5:40 pm Baby bob, Gene Lahey Mall renos, Heartland of America park renos, Omaha riverfront renos, misc CB riverfront improvements.

Also a condo tower similar in size to Riverfront Place.
And they told me that funding was secured already.

Yes, on the Omaha side. Didn't say anything about GLM, but I didn't ask.CyborgKen wrote: Mon May 28, 2018 4:38 pmAwesome! Condo on the Omaha side? Hmm well hopefully they do not cut the lake in half like I heard. I was down there last weekend and enjoyed walking around the lake. Also the trees are getting big. I would hate to see the park destroyed.

Re: Riverfront Announcement
It is very, very difficult to reduce or eliminate a city park without adding equivalent park land somewhere nearby. The public has a social as well as financial interest in its parks. And lord knows Omahans have paid dearly for what we have on the riverfront.

Re: Riverfront Announcement
Possibly something stemming from this meeting? Hopefully, it's a detailed announcement for things that are definitely going to happen, not one for things that might happen. Also seems a little unusual that they would announce on a Saturday but maybe it's a tie in with Taste of Omaha or something. Baby Bob connector is at the top of my wish list.Greg S wrote: Fri May 25, 2018 1:33 pm Was watching KETV this morning and they were talking about the Loess Fest this weekend. Council Bluffs riverfront ideas include elevated walkway, rooftop restaurant
An elevated walkway through the trees, a pavilion with a rooftop restaurant and a marina could someday take shape along the Council Bluffs riverfront. Officials shared those concepts on Wednesday during a community meeting on plans to transform the Council Bluffs side of the Missouri River.

OK....wondering if the findings of the Riverfront Revitalization report was supposed to be the big announcement for today and it just came out early or if there is actually still some kind of announcement pending for later.

Re: Riverfront Announcement
Thanks for the info. The report released Wednesday is really incredible and I would be ecstatic if even half of it comes to fruition. Right now though, it is just a beautiful compilation of things that could be. The one thing for certain is that we will probably all be considerably older by the time that stuff occurs. In the mean time I will be happy when we just establish a direct connection between what we are trying to develop in north downtown and what Council Bluffs is proceeding on right now. It will be a great day when I can enjoy a coffee and pastry in the morning at Filmstreams/Rally/Makerhood and enjoy a leisurely walk to the other side for a craft beer and lunch in the afternoon. The rest will just come about organically as it were.

I love the new announcements and if the tree canopy trail gets built it will be amazing. With that said, you can and should already enjoy this area as it is. Walk across the bridge over to CB and go to through the trails in the forested area, it is a great peaceful nature spot in an otherwise urban area.omahahawk wrote: Sat Jun 02, 2018 5:49 pm Thanks for the info.
