I have been hearing rumblings, especially from the NIMBY type, that the houses and duplexes along the west side of 50th street from Dodge to Leavenworth will be torn down to make way for apartment buildings. I live in the neighborhood and have heard this from multiple people.
I was caught off guard as I assumed I would have heard about something like this here first. Has anyone else heard about this or have any other info?
Personally, as a homeowner in the neighborhood, I would love to have this type of development in the area. I am pro-density and pro-walkability and this could provide a nice amount of transit friendly residences and businesses to the neighborhood.

Hope not. Its not like all those houses are in disrepair and vacant.

That doesn't seem really feasible to me. Such a long narrow swath with so many different owners. Don't see it happening.

I would agree that this doesn't seem feasible. The proposed zoning changes would allow something like this to happen, but I just don't see it. As someone who has been wanting to buy in that area of Dundee for years, I know those properties are rarely on the market and sell for a premium when they are. The expense to buy enough of those properties to tear them down and build a multi-family building, just doesn't make sense for a developer. I could see more projects like 4912 Davenport happening (https://eomahaforums.com/viewtopic.php? ... 63#p316063). This is a case of a single, poorly maintained property being torn down for a relatively small apartment building. I would be more in support of allowing more multi-family development but creating design standards. Some of the apartments in Dundee built a few decades ago have aged pretty poorly.
Thinking there's not a whole lot to say anymore now that people listen & she has to make sense.
