Once again, Omaha fared well this year especially for a city of only 500,000 people in a metro area of only 1 million. Four Omaha-based companies made the list: Berkshire Hathaway, Union Pacific, Peter Kiewit Sons’ and Mutual of Omaha. An additional three made the Fortune 1000: Valmont Industries, Green Plains and Werner Enterprises. Omaha is home to 100 percent of Nebraska’s Fortune 1000 companies.

This is impressive for Omaha, I thought Minneapolis would had more than just 6. Kansas City has never done well in this ranking.

Impressive to think about the massive companies we have in Omaha still on the fortune 1000. Some others of our recent past include the acquired TD Ameritrade and relocated conagra, but first data was founded here as well as Enron. Pretty impressive track record for a city it's size.
