Not wanting to let this announcement over the holiday weekend slip through the gaps, have people seen the debate over Omaha State Bank's proposed development at 96th & 370? I saw a report on the news last night, in which some Papillion residents were complaining about this new development (and a few supported it). Here's the World Herald report: http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_np=0&u ... id=1139098
Omaha State Bank wants to build a new branch office, convenience store, shopping center and office building near Walnut Creek Lake.
Personally I feel that more development in Papillion, particularly along 370 at a major crossroad like 96th street, would be beneficial. If the community continues to publicly complain it may hinder future developers from coming in. As one woman interviewed in the news story said as I paraphrase, "You can't keep building more homes and not fill the gaps with retail".
There will always by NIMBY's... no matter what the project.
Hopefully we'll get a more detailed look at this 'business park' in the near future. I think what Papillion needs is a new town center... which is precisely what planner Marty Shukert recommended in the 84th and 370 area.
Yes, the plans I remember seeing for the town center looked great. I haven't heard anything since last year though. The town center looked great along with the possible ampitheater idea. Hopefully the growth is ambitious yet controlled. The last thing I want is 370 to turn into the Maple St. of Sarpy county, but at the same time development is very overdue.
Any word on construction start for the Papillion Promenade?
ugh I've lived in Papillion for 4 years now...I can't think of anything new they developed, besides a Home Depot and Radio Shack..whoopie. La Vista's retail on the other hand has boomed. Shouldn't they extend 96th St from Cornhusker Rd to 370 before retail is built? That's way over due and 84th St is a |expletive| to drive thru. It was to be completed before the new High School was built, then pushed back by this summer and still nothing has been started.
I've been on vacation, otherwise I would have piped in on this one... I've also noticed that the 96th St. project has grown stagnant. I drive the intersection of 96th & Cornhusker often, and have never seen any signs of road construction. They'll need to clear trees and build a small bridge, but that appears to be months away at the soonest. I agree that 84th Street really needs congestion help from the west, and both 96th and 108th streets extended would greatly help the area. I hate driving 84th through downtown Papillion (25 mph) just to get to 370.
As far as development, the Papillion business park area off of 72nd & Cornhusker has down very well. Apparently city council has been more focused on business revenue than retail, but hopefully with the addition of the Walmart/Kohl's plaza their attitude will shift.
They have started on sending 96th street through to highway 370. I believe lincoln Street will also be extended to 114th street, I don't think that it is part of this project, but the county planning has made provisions for its future extension.
Below, bridge work getting started for 96th Street to cross the creek.
Brad, did you pay for your service at imageshack or are you using their free services. If you using the free services, aren't running out of space? You've been posting pictures like crazy lately. I like it.
I asked on this form where was a good place to post pictures and Zephyr told me imageshack. I have been using it for since last summer and have 16 pages of pictures and they have never said I was full, so I really don't know.
As far as posting a lot of pictures lately, Well I bought a digital camera and almost always have it with me, so if I see something, I shoot it. Since I am driving, well thats while the quality is not always the best.

It is neat to see how much development is occurring down there. La Vista and Papillion are really growing into quite a suburb.
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.
I'm disappointed to say that a Jensen Tire is going up at 96th & 370, according to a sign on the property. I had really high hopes for this lot since it backs to Walnut Creek Lake and has great trees in the background, but they are apparently turning it into just another suburban development.
