Brentwood Square (La Vista - 84th & Giles)

That's actually good news (IMO). Getting to their other Omaha store is a PITA from our house. Of course the next closest is in CB, IA.

I'd say I'd hope for friendlier staff, however I guess you can't ask for much considering Harbor Freight is basically the Dollar General of tool shops. On the plus side I'd say about 80-90% of what I've ever purchased from them tends to work pretty well. However, I wouldn't buy screw drivers or other common handheld tools as every single tool I've had in those categories has broken apart - and I mean physically busted. Screwdriver's handle literally shattered into pieces, rubber mallet's head flew right off.

I think I'd be a little scared to buy something important such as a car lift from them.

I've noticed the signage up for a while. I honestly thought nothing would ever goin the old Bakers location again. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that location has easily been vacant since the early 00's. My guess is sometime around 2002, but could be anywhere from 2000-2004. It was around the time the Albertson's, now Family Faire opened in that area, Bakers cashed in and vacated.

I always end up at Dragon Cafe on Mondays. Many other private Chinese restaurants are closed Mondays (getting ethnic food on a Monday is a real challenge), but Dragon Cafe has decided to be closed Tuesdays. So, if it's Monday and I'm craving Americanized Chinese food, then there's really only one convenient lunch option for me and that's Dragon Cafe. If it was their intention to be open on the day when all of the others are closed, then kudos to them.

When I was a kid I would make my mom drive out to Brentwood Square from Bellevue for their "Read All About It" bookstore (I'm fairly sure that was the franchise, correct me if I'm wrong) because it was the closest place to buy Wizards, Warriors, & You books. lol Those were the fantasy genre of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" style of books. You know, "If you open the door, turn to page 68. If you continue down the hall, turn to page 32."

Odd that you had to go out there from Bellevue as my Read All About It was in the Southroads. That store, if memory serves, was there from the mid 80's to the late 90's. So, maybe the one in Papillion predated the Southroads location? I remember locations in all of the "Roads" malls and one Downtown near where Block 16 is now on Farnam, but don't remember Brentwood, but we didn't go to Papillion all that often in the 80's as there wasn't much there.

After living at 84th & Brentwood, I firmly believe Brentwood Square will become phase 2 of City Centr(e?). It’ll likely start to the north where Lina’s is.

Loved Read All About It - they seemed to carry a lot of magazines on hobbies that I was interested in as a kid that no one else had. I think the bookstore that was right next to Dr X Pet Store in Westroads was a Read All About It as well.

Miss all that stuff.

I haven't been there for years - and to be honest I'm shocked it can remain open given the internet.

Did they relocate into a different bay? Also, do they have any of the bigger attractions such as the R/C race track(s) like the one off the Irvington exit? Which, by the way, has to be one of the largest hobby stores in the midwest IMO. With that being said the last time I went inside that store it appeared almost everything on the shelves had a layer of dust and half the lights were off inside. This was probably a year ago but it didn't look great.

Yeah into a larger bay closer to Giles. I think it used to be a medical clinic bay but not 100% on that.

It’s impressive in that it looks much more modern and refreshed. Big model/Gundam inventory, puzzles, R/C (no track), science kits, and just cool toys I haven’t seen other places in town. Feels like they got a new owner/investor for this location but that’s just a total guess

I find their prices for model kits are often cheaper than Amazon and selection is definitely larger than HobbyLobby type places

The old owner used to just stare at you the entire time you shopped. He gave off a real "everyone is a shoplifter" vibe. It was so awkward that after 5-10 minutes you'd just leave.

Orange Love (a small party supply store) is closing. I saw their "everything must go" store closure sale signs yesterday.
