Hilton Garden Inn to be built at 180th and West Dodge

The Grow Omaha newsletter back in June alluded to this.

Nothing special, but more lodging for West Omaha. $10 million, 119 rooms, 4 floors, 2,200 sq ft of meeting space, indoor pool. Looks like this will be on the west side of Village Pointe West.

(Oh the fine line I walk... dampening my enthusiasm for developments like this so as to not spur the usual 'are you kidding? this is a |expletive| project' response... only to get this kind of |expletive| from the other side of the fence. I should just change over to a read only blog format. Oh well. Moving on).

Aha! The rumor is true! There was a little bit about this hotel in a newsletter posted a long while ago about new developments coming to Omaha.

Yep, this development was listed in the Grow Omaha newsletter last summer..

And yes..I believe this is the second new motel development in West Omaha..The other being the Holiday Inn Select over in the Legacy II development on 171st and Center..

Its good to see more being built out west. I know there is no interstate out there, but they are still needed.

Additionally, I believe John Q Hammonds, developer of the trio of hotel properties at La Vista's Southport development, is also planning to build 2 additional hotels in West Omaha..

This quote is from a W-H story published on Saturday Oct 1st:

'Hammons also operates the Embassy Suites-Downtown in the Old Market. He said Friday that he plans to build two more hotels in west Omaha. A company spokesman declined to comment on where those hotels would be located.'..

It's probably been deleted from their archives already. OWH is notorious for that, they can't keep things for more than 6 mos it seems.

I don't know. If I was a betting man, I would say no, You need a building permit to even start building, but I will check in to my sources and see what I can find.

^My guess is that it is either an extension or it's just a permit to allow them to continue (maybe a modification to the design?). All buildings have multiple permits that are required, but those are usually required before they are allowed to start construction. Now that I think of it, I'm stumped.

Speaking of this area, there is an updated siteplan for Tribedo on the NW corner of 168th and Dodge. Seems like Omaha By design didn't think it wasn't close enough to VP. I like the pedestrian link.

Yeah, no kidding - I've lived out in this area for over 4 years now & the 180th St. intersection has been useless for almost the same amount of time. Talk about dragging your feet! Can we say "Dodge St. Expressway"? I mean really, how the heck can they build such a massive project and they can't even widen 180th & Dodge without shutting it down for 4 years???

Is there an update on when 180th & Dodge will open? It looks like a cleaning and line painting is all that is left to do.

You know it's very sad that the project on 180th & Dodge has taken longer than the elevated expressway will have taken! I've lived out west for 4 years & that ramp/overpass work was started at about the same time.

Doesn't it seem a bit ridiculous that this has taken that long?

These 180th and dodge people are really pissing me off. Get the damn thing done! The ONLY thing they did this week was move thier stuff to the side. I swear, they only work on this once a week at MOST.

According to WOWT this evening, the project (180th and Dodge) is on schedule and will open in July 2006.

Clearly there is no bonus for early completion, so there is no early completion.

They build 2 miles of 6 land road with 2 bridges and all they need to open it is a Traffic Light Truss...... Are you kidding me, that thing should be sitting on the ground 2 months before they need it just so this dosn't happen. They had all the traffic light trusses, sign trusses, and street lights for the west dodge expressway sitting over by Grisanti's for at least a year now.

I'm surprised this isn't opened yet. I thought it was supposed to open the same time the interchage of 180th and Dodge did.
