A bartender told me the other day at Metro Retro that the place was closing down, I guess the owner sold the property.

Wonder what they are doing with the cool looking building that NO business can survive in?

Wasn't Metro Retro relatively new? I mean there was other stuff there before Metro Retro came around but they sure didn't seem to last very long.

My god father (the middle ages dark haired guy at the main bar) usually keeps me up to date on that place. He tells me little stories about how he had to buy his own wash cloths because the owner was so cheep. And how he (owner) leased his parking lot out to businesses during the day and actually made a small fortune off that. Of course the other funny stories of how guys bring chicks there to hooking up  with them and the chicks end up puking all over. HAHAA I love it… Ill give him a call in a bit to find out the inside scoop. He was saying for a wile that business was bad and he was wanting to sale it so it wouldn’t surprise me.

At the December meeting of the Planning Dept, there was a request for a rezoning of 7777 Cass St., which is the Retro Metro, from a CFM Fitness Corp. The request was for a Fitness Plaza.

I hope it’s a health facility, I have been going to the Gold’s on 108th & Maple for years now and at this point I’m am so sick of them something just like this close to my house would make me drop them like a prom dress.

You're on the right track... There should be an announcement in the near future.

I think DTO needs a fitness center. I know the UP has one for employees, and the Hilton who just recently opened to the public for payment. I'm sure many condo and apartment buildings have their own work out area, but they don't offer the full package like a fitness center does.

OMG I thought you where talking about D’Shawn, that would have been soo funny! Yes I totally agree with you. I would like to see a really nice one open up down there like a Bally’s or something. They have the Y witch just remodeled but that’s not quite the same thing.

Well, there is the Pinnacle Club that many downtown residents use. And the Y is downtown too. I'm not sure there's enough residents down there to warrant a Bally's or a Crunch.

Is there a lot next to it or something? Maybe we'll see some new construction.

Looking at the site using map.google -- 77th and cass -- the lot look likes a triangular piece running along the bike path. Havent been there for awhile but the parking lot as it is wasnt large.

What's the real history on this building... before becoming a nightclub? Was it a house / farm house / barn?

At one time, it was the Cheyenne Social Club, a restaurant run by the Firmature brothers (I believe). It has also been a brew-pub (was it called Sharkey's?).

Sharkeys (early 90's) also included Zio's Pizza

The article did confirm that the owner plans to open a new venue downtown in the not-too-distant future. No real details, though.

Just talked to homeboy at 24 today I’m looking into leaving Gold’s. He said they will have everything they have at the Old Mill location when it comes to amenities. He also said it will encroach on 40,000 sq feet.Just talked to homeboy at 24 today I’m looking into leaving Gold’s. Plus they are having a awesome special $799 for the first three years and then $29 A YEAR after that for life! Now that’s an offer I can’t refuse.
