Rockbrook Camera (Omaha and Lincoln)

Not sure if this has been posted yet or not, but Rockbrook Camera is building a new structure behind our store on the SW corner of 168th & Center. It will contain them as well as upto 3 other smaller tenants.

Fortina, 79, started Rockbrook Camera

With six children, there were lots of Kodak moments in the Fortina household.

Carl J. Fortina, the founder of Rockbrook Camera, was passionate about photography. Son Chuck Fortina said his dad probably had pictures in the camera when he died.

The elder Fortina, 79, died Monday at his home in Silvercrest Assisted Living Center. Services will be at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at St. Cecilia Cathedral.

The three Fortina sons have run the business since their father stepped down a few years ago.

The business was started in Rockbrook Village, moved across 108th Street in 1991 and, more recently, added stores in Lincoln and the Legacy area of 168th Street and West Center Road.

A first-generation American and Omaha native, Fortina graduated from Omaha Technical High School and served in World War II as a master technical sergeant with the U.S. Army. He trained at Fort Riley, Kan., to drive tanks, but the war ended before he could be sent overseas.

Fortina got his start in business in 1951 working with the Calandras, who ran a camera store at 24th and M Streets.

Fortina is survived by his wife, Relda, and their children:: Deb Fortina, Dave Fortina, Carla Fortina, Joe Fortina, and Chuck Fortina, all of Omaha, and Tricia Fortina of Ventura, Calif.

That would not surprise me. Always have thought that two locations in Omaha was more than needed.

Omaha Store Consolidation & Expansion Plans

When we built our Legacy store at 168th & West Center Rd. in 2006, our intent was to one day have our business under one roof in this spacious facility. After 14 years of operating 2 stores in Omaha, the time has come to follow thru with that plan.

Expansion is underway at Legacy and when completed this spring, our 108th & Center St. store will close and move 5 miles west to 168th & West Center Rd. along with our entire staff of talented and caring associates.

Got this email today that states the last day for the108th street location is March 23.

In our last update, we communicated that the Rockbrook location would begin moving west and be completed by April 1. This notice is to inform you that the last day for business at 108th St. will be Monday, March 23. We have been moving every day and making rapid progress so there is now very limited inventory at that location but plenty at the Legacy location on 168th & W. Center.
