I heard a country bar is opening downtown. Does anyone think this type of bar would be successful downtown?

I don't see why not. May not be everyones cup of tea, but it will certainly be a hit with others.

If you are going to take a knock at the country music scene then you better not gloat about all the concert seats sold at the Qwest and how it stacks up against the world. a LOT of those seats are filled because of Country music.

yeah
that's just it, there are sold out country music concerts at the qwest,
but there aren't a lot of country music bars in Omaha and there aren't any downtown,
so maybe this place will have a go at it and add to the nightlife downtown.

Yes. DC's Saloon. If there can be a GAY country bar there can be a regular country bar.

Wasn't there a Country bar on the SW corner of 72nd and Pacific back in the days?

I think that'd be an excellent addition to the downtown scene. As long as it's "good country" (who am I kidding. They're going to blare Toby Kieth, or Koby Tieth, at all hours of the night!). :;):

Yes, it was the Electric Cowboy.

When I first moved here it was a meat-market disco and disco was dying. It soon switched to Electric Cowboy and became a meat-market urban cowboy bar for a while and then closed.

OBTW, DC's (as well as The Max) is a great place to people-watch if you're in the area. :)

I had attempted to make a smarty comment about the first two letters in a very common three letter acronym, and the auto-censor substituted "ow" for "tf" in that one.

It looks like somebody killed the message totally.

1419 Farnum is the Paxton. Its in there? I haven't looked over there for a bit but I'll go look after work. If it is country its not my cup of tea but should add a nice niche to the area.

Yes - the forum changes the letters (w)hiskey (t)ango (f)oxtrot to wow.

And there is no slander in referring to Whiskey Tango as an phonetic abbreviation for White Trash.

Do a google search or just look up:

It's full name is the Whiskey Tango Saloon and Dance Hall and it is above Jazz on the second tier. The Paxton is at 14th and Jackson. Live local country bands have been booked for weekends. The grand opening is tonight and Saturday, and is billed as the official KAT103 pre and post party spot for the River City Roundup. Not a rumor, the flyers are littered up and down 10th Street.
Always a business-oriented city hungry for growth and focused on development with laser intensity, Omaha aimed high, reached for momentum and found critical mass.

New cowboy music bars are kickin' it
Omaha World Herald wrote:Yee-haw! Country bars are making a comeback in Omaha. There's more to cowboy bars than honky-tonk tunes blaring from the jukebox. Some are traditional dance halls. Others use bar gimmicks to get people in the door. Bushwacker's, one of the oldest country-western bars in town, has been around for more than 25 years. The saloon has a wagon-style awning, three large Texas stars and longhorns mounted above the entry door. Rustic wooden beams, a stained-wood dance floor, ironwork and large ceramic pots fill the inside.

Whiskey Tango Saloon and Dance Hall, 15th and Farnam Streets - Horseshoes, saddles and longhorns are mounted on the country-martini bar's walls. Its 30-foot, L-shaped bar sits just feet away from a huge wooden dance floor. Free country line dance lessons are offered every Monday, Friday and Saturday. Live bands, like Omaha's Cowboy Up!, perform on weekends

Stumble Inn, 17602 Wright St. - The place has a Texas biker bar feel. Saddle seats, tractor seats, Harley-Davidson seats, lassos and longhorns are everywhere. An Arlen Ness motorcycle is mounted over the bar's T-shirt shop. To make up for no dance floor, there's a mechanical bull and an inflatable mat around the bullpen inside the bar.

I think the country fans aren't really thinking of Downtown Omaha as the place to find country.

See you when the smoking ban kicks in. Heck, it could be my neighborhood bar by then, although I will not be wearing assless chaps.

In the bar, anyway.
