Douglas Theatres building at Southport

This isn't really a rumor, its the truth. They will be building a 14 multi-plex with at least 1 or 2 balconies serving alcohol, such as their current plans for the 6-plex Midtown property.

unofficial is a good word.

first it was millard lumber
then it was a theater
then it was an ice rink
then it was a ballpark
now its a theater again

the only thing i have seen on paper was the skating rink on the master plan back in 2001 and then some offices were looking at it last year.

Trust me...I'm the closest source to this project as anyone that either browses or participates on this forum. However, with new Midtown and Southport property for the Douglas Theatres, don't be surprised to see a couple (at least 1) of their theaters closing.

I don't know which one of you is closer, but I will tell you this, there are SEVERAL people on this forum close to the south port project and none of them have said a word so I would guess you are on the theater end of things.

I'm close to the action as well and haven't heard any confirmation. Douglas was in on the early talks when Cabela's broke ground last year and the thought was to close the Q-Cinema and build at Southport West. It would be a great addition to the development. It's surprising that the developers are not moving forward as fast as you would expect. If the hotels are open next year there may not be anything else out there to serve the guests for a while. Someone is missing the boat. If you read the World Herald on Wednesday there was an article about La Vista's sales tax loss from Wal-Mart and Gordmans, but the gain from Cabela's. You'd think the developers would be revising price points with the draw Cabela's brings and the future of the Embassy Suites.
Theaters would be great, but what about retail? I hope your theater info is correct before they decide to build at Shadow (Blinn) Lake.

Southport is a bit of an enigma. They have hundreds of higher end hotel rooms open, under construction, or planned, and numerous office buildings open or under construction, plus Cabelas, but ABSOLUTELY NO retail or restaurants to serve these people. HELLO??? Quick access off the Interstate from most of west and SW Omaha and much of Sarpy County, but nothing to lure anyone to the area, or keep those who are there from heading somewhere else. Roads are in. Sewers are in. 50,000 vehicles or more pass by every day. What are the developers waiting for?

They are in the works, they just have a few roads to finish they are currently working on.

I am guessing that King Taco has some connection to The Burger King and Taco Johns that are going in there right by the Hampton inn. There is also a Summer Kitchen by them. I have also heard rumors about 2 national sit down chains a Jimmy Johns, a Starbucks, and a bar.

I can't tell you who confirmed the theater construction because the source who informed me of the construction was an employee who had seen the final plans. I will talk to this source again tomorrow and ask them to confirm the current situation. However, from what was told to me two weeks ago was that Douglas was "for sure" building. Sorry if I caused any needless excitement, but I wouldn't have posted this topic if I didn't trust the source.

The people I know in the Sarpy county government have not said anything. The Developer who has a radio show on Saturday mornings, has not said anything on the radio. People I know at paypal have not said anything. So as far as me, I can't tell you if its going to happen or not, however if you know its going to happen, cool, I can totally see it. Its an attractive area to build in.

However please quite starting new threads asking us if we know anything.

I'm not trying to get out of context here or belittle this forum, but do you guys (forum admins) wait for the "big wigs" to announce official plans before believing anything is going to be constructed? Just so you know, its quite easy to find the announcement of the theater project. The company building the theater released its own press release announcing they will be the ones constructing the building. However, Douglas Theatres has kept quiet. I don't believe they wanted that info out floating around. Anyway, hope you all appreciate the knowledge.

We usually keep the thread in the rumor section until we find a link to a press release, news story, website etc. Just because its in the rumor section doesn't mean we don't believe it.

Why don't you join our forum and post a link to the press release?
