Before I discuss locations - because there is a specific one in mind, is Steve and Barry's a big get to anyone. The developer working on them sure thinks so. A store could be going up by this fall.

There is one in the Mall in Lincoln. It has not been Gateway for many years. It is now Westfield Shopping Center after an ownership change some time back. The Steve and Barry's is located in the old Montgomery Wards location. It is HUGE taking up both floors of the old department store. For what it is it isn't bad. The Quality of stuff is average at best. The few times I have been in there it seems busy. My Teen likes the stuff from there and that is the market they are going after I supose. I will admit I have a couple T Shirts from there too.

So GUEST, where are they looking at adding a store in the Metro?

i don't think its a "good get" like Urban Outfitters, to me its more like Old Navy with more athletic looking apparel.

I definitely wouldn't say this is on the same level as Urban Outfitters. On a scale of 1-5, 1 being Wal-Mart, 5 being a Louis Vuitton or Chanel or something...I'd say Urban Outfitters would be a 4, Steve and Barry's would probably be a 3.

Still, always good to have more clothing options.

Not totally correct. Yes it was bought out, but Gateway wasn't totally dropped. It is now Westfield Gateway.
http://westfield.com/gateway/

And I really like the Steve & Barry's there. It seems to cater to the college / high school sport markets from what I could tell. And they do minimal changes to the interiors so some relics are left like glass storefronts between departments.

I would imagine a location like Crossroads would be decent for them. Being close to UNO and Creighton students. But they could go by any mall in town.

jsheets, you beat me to it. I was just going to mention that it is Westfield-Gateway. I think Steve and Barry's is even lower on the quality scale than 3. When you pay $5.95 for a t-shirt, its not going to last long and is not made of the finest quality. Either way, if this rumor is true, Omaha will soon add another NEW retailer to our market. We should be happy about that!

This would be great for Omaha. I've shopped at S and B's all over. The sweatshirts they sell with the lettering stitched in are a 5 on a quality scale. I've got about 20 of the sweatshirts (some for several years) and they are great. Heavyweight and do not shrink (even in the dryer) and the color does not fade. I've never paid more than $20 for one, usually a lot less than that. The t shirts are fine. Some of the other stuff is a little too young looking for me.

I've got lots of co-workers that drive to Lincoln just to shop there (we dress casual in our office).

I'm actually going to the one in Lincoln before or after the game this Saturday.

Any idea what part of town they are looking at and how soon it might open?

There is still room up at Sorensen Park Plaza.

Being there is some room between Petco and the rest of the strip -- I vote for Sorensen. It sounds like it would also fit in with Marshalls, Rue 21, Target and it might help fill in some of the small building in the middle.

well that would put it in the building attached to the new Hancock Fabrics.

Too bad it would have looked better up at Sorensen Plaza.

Won't be attached to Hancock. That building and the one facing 72nd are not connected, but they are close.

Drove by that area tonight and if the store goes in that area by Hancocks it will kind of be shielded (hidden) by the IHOP from 72nd.

Also drove through Sorensen Plaza -- plenty of room -- have the movie theatre and other stores that already bring people -- although maybe it is too expensive to build in there compared to Benson Plaza.

There was a listing in today's Jobs section for a store in LaVista.
Here is a link to the careers section from their website.

Any info on where in La Vista? The old Gordmans or Wal-Mart seem to be possible locations worthy of a remodel for a store like this.

What I was meaning is that in addition to the Omaha store, there is going to be one in LaVista that no one has mentioned yet. The job listing said the store was going to be in Brentwood Square, old Gordmans I assume.

No longer a rumor
Steve & Barry's will open a store in La Vista before the end of the year.

The 55,393-square-foot store will be at Brentwood Square near 84th Street and Giles Road, according to representatives for the casual apparel retail chain. The store is expected to open in mid-November.

Randy Wieseler, president of First Management Inc., which manages the property, confirmed that Steve & Barry's would be moving into the former Gordmans storefront.

Great. I went to the store for the first time in Lincoln and love it. Nothing sucks more than to pay $20-40 for a pair of jeans for a 5 year old, only to have the knees worn out within 6 months.

Unless it's an additional 2% local tax on those jeans, right? :;):

Benson Park Plaza lands new Steve & Barry's

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1 ... d=10173862
National retailer Steve & Barry's will join Benson Park Plaza next year.

Randy Lenhoff, president of Seldin Co., said the casual apparel retail chain will open a 70,000-square-foot store north of Home Depot at the shopping center at 72nd Street and Ames Avenue.

"It's a very good retail draw," Lenhoff said. "It has really competitive pricing and good-quality items."

The store will be the first Steve & Barry's in Omaha, although the chain has a Lincoln location and is planning to open a store in La Vista before the end of the year. Steve & Barry's expects to open at Benson Park Plaza next summer.

Groundbreaking for the store, which will employ about 100 people, will be Monday, Lenhoff said.

Baker's Supermarket and Home Depot anchor the shopping center. It also has smaller retailers and seven restaurants.

Lenhoff said he is happy with the tenant mix.

"All three of our anchors, we think, will generate a lot of traffic and do well. We anticipate getting some additional retailers to further complement those uses."

Seldin Co. officials targeted Steve & Barry's early as a retailer they wanted at their shopping center, Lenhoff said. Negotiations took more than a year, and he visited the chain's flagship store in New York.
