It was reported on Channel 5 this morning that 2 council members sent letters to the NCAA about a rumored letter the NCAA sent the mayors office. It basically said that they heard a rumor there was a 3-5 year extension possibility and that the NCAA didnt have a preferance over downtown and keeping Rosenblatt. The mayors office wouldn't let them read it and they were mad. WAA WAA WAA. They wanted to know what the letter said and wanted to contact the NCAA directly. My whole take on this is that the NCAA will just read 'Please take the CWS away from Omaha, our leaders are fighting and are too stupid to wait for the NCAA to publicly release their feelings on the whole thing.'
They showed the letter on the news, but I couldnt read the whole thing.

I don't think the Mayor wants the extension, probably because if we have time to think about it we'll realize it's not worth it. He seems determined to get the downtown ballpark done, right now, no matter the costs involved. I can't help but be suspicious with all the secrecy going on.

... all that and if it is not done now it will not have his name tied to it! :mrgreen:Bugeater wrote:I don't think the Mayor wants the extension, probably because if we have time to think about it we'll realize it's not worth it. The report I heard, which I admit I semi agree with, is that the Powers That Be have not been straightforward with the dissemination of the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
I still have seen or heard nothing, directly attributable to the NCAA, that demands or even "strongly suggests" a new stadium in North Downtown as any kind of deal-breaker for keeping the CWS in Omaha.and that the NCAA didnt have a preferance over downtown and keeping Rosenblatt.
My hunch is that they are not the only ones who have gone directly to the NCAA. I'm sure the Save The Blatt gang have at least attempted to start a direct dialog with NCAA.They wanted to know what the letter said and wanted to contact the NCAA directly.
Unless the Mayor and the other Powers That Be are severely derelict, they have been involved in ongoing two-way discussions with NCAA, and both of them (hisonner and NCAA) are on the same page. That's what I think the bottom line is.My whole take on this is that the NCAA will just read 'Please take the CWS away from Omaha,

They never flat out said downtown, but they basically implied it. Where else in the city can you build a stadium within a walking distance from a majority of the city's hotel rooms and the city's largest concentration of bars and restaurants? They never said it, nor will they, but that is what they mean.Omababe wrote:I still have seen or heard nothing, directly attributable to the NCAA, that demands or even "strongly suggests" a new stadium in North Downtown as any kind of deal-breaker for keeping the CWS in Omaha.and that the NCAA didnt have a preferance over downtown and keeping Rosenblatt.
There are numerous articles about this 50 or so pages ago, but honestly, it isn't worth looking through all this bs bickering, which I will admit I have been a part of, to find.

I tend to agree and in my mind it comes down to two things:
-We can modify the Blatt and probably get a 5 year deal but no more. The NCAA has probably opened the door for negotiations for a longer deal based on the Mayor's willingness to take the facilities to the next level as described above. In this case, both scenarios are true, it's just the Mayor is trying to be more long term vision oriented.
-The downtown location while not expressly requested by the NCAA is probably the only site in the city that meets the needs required for the extended contracts we are seeking.
I think that everyone will probably feel alot better about the decision once the details are released. The unknowns are the big culprits right now.

...and they present it to the NCAA tomorrow. So, we won't have to wait too long. And look at Rosenblatt now compared to even 10-15 years ago. How much does Rosenblatt really resemble its former self? Different stands, different boards, different vendors, etc. Me thinks the stadium people are trying to save is not quite the stadium they thought they are trying to save. So if they built downtown and it nets about the same price to the public, big deal: consider it an evolutionary step, just like the changes made to Rosenblatt every few years. Like the old saying goes, you can only slap so much lipstick on a pig...
