96th & Mockingbird Former Gas Station

The gas station/car wash which closed up shop at least a year ago has been purchased. They've been rebuilding the lot and sidewalks along with rennovating the building for a few months now. Noticed the new sign today; look for a used car dealership to set up shop in the next few weeks. I wish it was something a bit more useful to the neighborhood, but it's better than an abandoned gas station.

I have been wondering what this was going to be. Seems like an odd place for a used car lot.
I guess the car wash is going to go - that hadn't worked for years - but they would let you buy a wash at the pumps

Hah!

I think they're revamping that into two repair bays.

I grew up just a few blocks from there, used to go to that gas station all the time. It really went downhill after Kwik Shop took it over. The prices on everything went way up, and it always smelled funny in there...

I really wish it was something beside a car dealer. No offense to the owner, but a car dealer in a closed up gas station is one of the worst looking uses!

I too used to go there. I loved going to the bike trails (before they built ADT and that huge commercial space that no one leases) and hitting the gas station.

Heh, I remember those trails, that's going waaaayyy back. I remember there being some short but really steep hills on the north end of the property. I never cared for the way that the building they built on that area has those three sections of sloped mirrored glass that practically burn out your retinas from reflecting the sun into your eyes if you drive by on WB L St at the wrong time.

New sign up - Cars: On the Dollar.

At least the new landscaping and lights are an improvement to that corner.

Yeah, the landscaping is nice. I was surprised to see the lighting setup though - it's not the total solar meltdown that you see at most car dealerships. It's not a bunch of junky cars either, and frankly on a busy night at Mockingbird Lanes, it all melds together. So far it absolutely beats an abandoned gas station with crumbling concrete and parked semi trucks.
