Thanks for sharing that... the Tri City area seems to be alive and well.

I'm an umpteenth generation immigrant... and I'm still having trouble with this!

Yeah, Grand Island, Kearney and even Hastings continue to make healthy steps forward. This news is particularly encouraging for Grand Island's diversity. When I graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1992, there were only 5 black students in my graduating class. Kearney and North Platte always seemed to have more black people to me. But I wouldn't be surprised if Grand Island now has the most African-Americans in central Nebraska. 450 is a full 1% of G.I.'s population. Hispanics continue to be the largest minority population by far, followed by Asians. But this probably puts Afican-Americans pretty close to Asians in Grand Island now.

It'd be interesting to learn where these immigrants are coming from. I know that Omaha has the largest quantity of Sudanese refugees in the country. I'm sure it's the primary departing city for Grand Island's Sudanese.

I assume we're talking largest number of Sudanese as a percentage of the population of Omaha (I hadn't heard this)... as I'm fairly certain Detroit has many more Sudanese than Omaha.

I know there is an article about it somewhere, but I read Omaha has the largest number of "Lost Boys". Something like 2.000. Perhaps Detroit has a larger number of overall Sudanese immigrants. I may have my info screwed up, too. But I did read that Omaha has become a draw for other Sudanese around the country becasue it established a reliable relocation network early and the Sudanese community grew quickly.
