Old Fashioned/Out Dated Stores

I personally get a kick out of stepping back in time for a bit by entering a store that has not been updated in a long time, and I try to buy something to support them a little bit to help keep them open.

The first store that comes to mind is McKinneys Food Center in Gretna. When you walk in and look to the right, you can see there was a cafe or coffee shop in that corner at one time, as its still an open area, but has racks of bread lining the walls, but you get a good feeling of the old times when youre there. Everything about this store screams mid 90s.

Another is the Food 4 Less in Fremont. This one is self explainatory. Its a Food 4 Less that still exists, atleast the last time I was out there it was.

A smaller, yet no less important one is the Bakers on 30th. That store hasnt changed a bit from the 80s and its great.

I have always wanted to visit a hardware store in downtown Papillion because as far as I know they are still in business and havent succumbed to the pressure from huge companies like Home Depot and Lowes.

What about you guys? Do you get that great nostalgia feeling when stepping into a store like this?

The hardware store on 40th and Cuming fits the bill. Also, they are my go to place to get random odds and ends for old home repairs. Absolutely love the place.

McKinney's in Gretna will be closing, most likely by the end of the year. The owners are retiring. It has been stated that there is too much investment needed to update the store and they have sold the property ready. I believe it was sold and resold. The new owners are the owners of the Ace Hardware in Gretna and they will be moving to this location.
