I don't know much about it, but doesn't it seem a little earlier for a fall foliage map? That is still 4-6 weeks away and a lot can happen between now and then.

I too have no clue how it works... But it would seem like our excessively wet late August/ early September, and subsequent hot and dry period would have some affect on when and how intense the colors could be. And prediction on what that may do is appreciated.

US Forest Service wrote:A late spring, or a severe summer drought, can delay the onset of fall color by a few weeks. A warm period during fall will also lower the intensity of autumn colors. A warm wet spring, favorable summer weather, and warm sunny fall days with cool nights should produce the most brilliant autumn colors."

Funny how KETV expects Mother Nature to adhere precisely to man made county boundary lines.

I have seen really bright red Sumac, and then River Birch, Locust, and Ash trees all starting to get a little yellow on them.

The Ash trees are looking really good this week! However they are starting to drop their leaves fast.

Starting to see some of the more colorful maples turn now too.

I have been seeing some great color in our neighborhood within the past week. Lots of reds, orange and yellow. It has been a great fall, although a little warm, but the colors look great.

Edit: so apparently, the map above was pretty spot on.

The next two weeks should see the peak of colors. Especially if we see colder weather and we don’t see much wind.
