'A huge event for our little, tiny town': Luke Bryan performing in Murdock, Nebraska, Thursday night

Thousands are going to a small Nebraska town as part of Luke Bryan's Farm Tour. The country singer will perform at Stock Hay and Grain in Murdock Thursday at 6 p.m. It's been a year in the making and people from the town say they can't wait to see all the planning pay off. "We like to work together and get things done and make it happen," said Murdock Village Treasurer Jackie Barnes. "It's like a huge event for our little tiny town of approximately, 240, 250 (people)." Andrew Stock is the owner of Stock Hay and Grain. "The stage is going to be set in about halfway across the farm here," he said. "My kids are the sixth generation to grow up here on this farm, so we've been here a long time." Stock said planning for the concert started in 2021. "I was at work one day, and my phone rang and they just asked me if I was the farmer that grew some alfalfa hay between Lincoln and Omaha," he said.

Stock said alfalfa crops or a grass field were a requirement for the tour. "Alfalfa, as you can see, is kind of green and soft like a lawn so it's a little easier for people to walk on, a little easier for people to sit on," Stock said. "And it's clean, there's not as much dirt and debris blowing around as what there would be with a conventional corn and soybean field." The timing of the concert works pretty well for the farm too. "We are pretty much done for the season," he said. "So, their concert does not hinder our harvest or profits for the year because it's late enough for the fall."

Barnes said she will be in attendance and like so many others, she won't want this night to end. "It does kind of put us on the map and say 'Hey! We're Murdock,'" she said. Stock said there will be plenty of security including volunteers and extra help from teams across the metro. That includes emergency crews and volunteer fire departments from different counties. If you plan on going to the concert, the Cass County Sheriff's Office suggests taking Church Road to 310th Street, South to Waverly Road. and then west to the concert site. You can also take Highway 1 to Bluff Road, West to 298th Street and then north to the concert site.

Luke Bryan concert on Nebraska farm puts spotlight on hunger and farming Thursday night

It's a big concert in our area, but it's not in Omaha or Lincoln. Instead, it's in Murdock, Nebraska at Stock Hay & Grain Farm. Country star Luke Bryan took the stage there on Thursday night but it was not all about the music. Luke Bryan is partnering with Feeding America on his tour. It's a national network of hundreds of food banks. In Omaha, Food Bank for the Heartland is feeding America's partner. Every time fans use the hashtag #herestothefarmer a meal will get donated to Feeding America. Donations are coming at a critical time.
