The Decatur Bridge is a historic landmark that has provided regional connectivity for more than 70 years.
Ongoing maintenance of the aging bridge indicates it is time to determine the appropriate long-term solution to provide continued access across the Missouri River.
Identified as Decatur Bridge, the proposed project would evaluate options to improve the Nebraska Highway 51 (N-51) / Iowa Highway 175 (IA-175) Missouri River crossing in Burt County, Nebraska and Monona County, Iowa.
There are opportunities for the community to engage and help shape the future of the Decatur Bridge! Scroll down to find links to participate in a community-wide survey and share your input with the project team. The survey will be open for input through March 15, 2024.
Decatur Bridge Feasibility StudyPhase 1: Feasibility Study (Fall 2023 – Fall 2024)
This early assessment of the project begins with environmental studies and public input to better understand existing conditions and future needs.
Phase 2: Preliminary Design & National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Decision (Fall 2024 – Fall 2025*)
Alternatives would be considered, and preliminary plans would be developed as part of the NEPA decision-making process, resulting in a preferred alternative and an approved NEPA decision document.
Phase 3: Final Design (Anticipated to begin in 2026 following NEPA approval)
The preferred alternative will be advanced through final design and construction plans will be made.
