Data Breach at First National?

My wife has an account at First National Bank and she was called yesterday saying she needed to verify some recent transactions she had. After she told them they were all hers/correct, they forced her to close her bank card anyway due to a "high risk of fraud" but wouldn't tell her why or how.

Today she physically went to one of the First National Bank branches to get a new card ordered and there apparently were multiple people at the bank doing the same thing for the same reason. She again asked the bank teller if there had been a data breach but the teller just avoided the question.

Anyhow, just a heads up there was probably a pretty significant data breach at First National that they are trying to keep hush-hush (which is annoying) so if you have an account there, probably should keep a close eye on your transactions just in case.

Thats so oddly timed. I received a new debit card from them just a couple days ago but hadn't requested one.

That is odd. Probably what they initially started doing when they realized there was a data breach but had too many customers confused as to why they had gotten a new card in the mail so they instead started calling people to tell them they had to get a new one.

The surprise new card might be the bank pushing out ones with tap to pay. See if there's a WiFi looking symbol on the new card compared to the old one.

If people have a credit card they can pay in full every month, a smart thing to do is to use it for everything. That way if the card is compromised, it's just the credit limit at risk, not your cash.

I’m a customer of this bank, I’ve noticed lately probably about a year now that the ATM’s are frequently out of service, in fact one was recently removed and a new one was put in.

i bank with American National in CB and someone hacked my card, too. Strange coincidence, I'm sure, but people that steal from other people are |expletive| losers.

I'm keeping my eye on this cause I have a FNBO account, but I haven't heard anything from them or gotten a new card, or had any fraudulent transactions. Hope it all works out.

A well known merchant probably had their credit card system hacked and thus shutting down cards as a precaution due to test charges.
