I just had a coworker who was driving down I-80 and saw a person take their own life. Obviously an awful and traumatic thing to witness and have happen.
If you need help - please, get help (not trying to sound preachy so hopefully it doesn't come across that way).
If anyone out there stumbles across this post and is currently struggling, PLEASE get the help you need. Suicide is never the answer - all it does is cause the people who care about you to suffer. Things WILL get better no matter what you may believe currently. Trust me, I've struggled - I'm sure everyone has at one point or another. It's nothing to be ashamed of but nothing is worth completely giving up your life over.
Sorry for the sobering post but I think it's important to say.

I noticed those "there is hope" signs popping up all over. The pedestrian bridge, the whale carcass, and a random bridge over I-480... look, I get it's well intended, but I'm not sure how I feel about them. I went for a walk with my niece downtown recently and I really don't think it's a good thing for her to see. Ya go for a nice walk in the park and have to have a conversation about why people end up jumping over the fence... I know suicide is one of those things we don't necessarily want to stigmatize, but I also don't want it to become normalized.

Make the call.” For some people, people at the right place at the right time, this message could be a lifesaver. Some have speculated, though, that suicide prevention signs and phones, while clearly well-intentioned, could inadvertently contribute to the problem by planting the idea of suicide. Could they give someone who otherwise was not considering jumping—from that spot, at least—the idea to do so?"
