Pinnacle Bank Arena / Lincoln going after NCAA Men's BB tourney first round

It looks like a bid was put in to host in 27 or 28 but was not chosen.

This talked about the number of full-service hotels and where Lincoln is on that list.

Based on the discussion when it first opened, I thought that seating was smaller for PBA than what would be chosen. That is not mentioned in the story at all, so maybe I remember something wrong.

General Manager of Pinnacle Bank Arena Tim Savona talked on KLIN Radio's Drive Time Lincoln with Jack Mitchell on Monday. One of the requirements for all locations, and what has been an issue for Lincoln landing a bid, has been the number of full-service hotels. That's something that Savona said isn't an issue now.

Lincoln put in a bid to host in 2027 or 2028. Instead, cities chosen were Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Omaha, Louisville, Fort Worth, Sacramento, and Spokane in 2027 and Tulsa, Brooklyn, Orlando, Des Moines, Columbus, Birmingham, Salt Lake City, and Seattle in 2028.

The size of the arena used to be a bigger issue. For years, that was the problem with Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, it was built a little too small, but since Des Moines has hosted the tournament twice (2019, 2023) Des Moines' arena is just about 500 more seats than Pinnacle, so it is doable.

I am not sure size was ever an issue for PBA. Look at this from 2013. It talks about seating requirements were going to be raised to 12k "sellable seats" but it didn't get there, it went to 10k:

As a Husker fan, I would love to see Lincoln get a chance to host first-round games. I like PBA

As a Fan of Nebraska programs in General, it would be great to see games in Lincoln and Creighton have a chance to play there for the first round if all things aligned.

Didn't think about that. Creighton would be able to play, of course they would probably have to be a 1 or 2 seed but that would be fantastic.
