Public Transit Abroad Being Replaced With Drive Share

I heard several reports from Aguascalientes Mexico, a mid-sized city like Omaha and their bus culture is waining.

They have sufficient buses that were aging but locals filled buses to the brim, even standing. Buses were frequent at 15 minutes and although stops could be done everywhere, locals relied on these buses with pesos..

Now Uber and Didi have taken over because its cheap enough that traffic congestion has been getting worse in the City, especially in the choke points of downtown small streets.

Buses are now infrequent at 30 mins frequency, some buses don't arrive and buses are half empty.

Buses are now new, yet fewer riders are happening and the digital pass payment system appears to be a deterrent as cash is no longer an option.

Employers have shuttles for work, so many take the buses to Nissan factories.

Aguascalientes has become to suburbinized or "fraccionamientos", loops have gotten more lanes and wider roads are now a thing with strip mall parking lot galore.

As long as we don't get faster transit, car centricity will win.

In our home city of Puerto Vallarta the locals like to complain about slow busses, or gaps in service. And I think the service isn’t quite as reliable or frequent as in years past. But the busses are mostly new, or within about 5 years old, and at least some are air conditioned and come equipped with handicapped lifts. The effort to install a card reader system for fares failed, so people are required to use pesos (10 pesos per ride, about 52¢ equivalent). Students can ride for free. The bus system is very popular, though Uber and NDriver also exist, and get plenty of business. Traffic congestion has become more and more of a problem as the city continues to grow rapidly, but the city has about 200 city busses and for now at least they remain a popular way to get around the city.
We just returned from a few weeks in Hungary, Austria and Germany. Public transit is fast, reliable and inexpensive in all of the places we visited. The subway systems were all super easy to use, and inexpensive.

I remember the times I would like to sit in the back for them speedbumps. I briefly know about Guadalajara but I understand its neighbor Aguascalientes.
