Still don’t understand why Offutt doesn’t have an annual airshow anymore.

Makes zero sense to me as well - I feel it started around covid, but maybe prior to that it was already going to every other year.skinzfan23 wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 4:07 pm Still don’t understand why Offutt doesn’t have an annual airshow anymore.
Personally, when they do have one, I prefer the Blue Angels over the Thunderbirds (I find it a little funny they're doing an air show named Fields of Thunder but not getting the Thunderbirds).
At least the Omaha metro has an air base - how Lincoln or a city like Des Moines can get one before us is odd, IMO.

Some of the years with no shows were tied to runway work, construction, and flood-related issues.

Yes Offutt has had the sequester, Covid, runway repairs and the flood. But at this point there is no reason why they can’t make it an annual thing again or at least every other year.
The last one they had was poorly run with shuttle buses and little to no water on the first day. Maybe they should have it more frequently so they are better prepared for it.

I was there for day 1 of the disaster show, and it would have been to find more things that could have been done wrong.

It's crazy to hear this because the last one I attended was probably around 2009-2010. We shuttled from Southroads and it was a complete disaster. They also did NOT have water, and things seemed like a total cluster. It's not like this is their first rodeo. How can they not get this right???nebugeater wrote: Wed Dec 10, 2025 10:12 amFor sureskinzfan23 wrote: Wed Dec 10, 2025 9:55 am Yes Offutt has had the sequester, Covid, runway repairs and the flood. This last one was the first where they didn't allow any parking on base. They had nowhere near enough buses from the shuttle points. I parked by Southroads about 1 1/2 hours before the gates open, and I had to wait for 1:45 to even get on a bus. When the show was over, as most people do, they wait untill the last flight and then leave. The bus boarding areas were poorly marked, what was marked was at ground level, and you could not see the signs through 1000s of people. I waited over 2 hours to get on a bus. It was hot beyond belief, and there was no water for sale or to get anywhere. The number of people I saw drop was insane, and the emergency personnel could hardly get to them. I was by myself as an adult. Those who had kids or were more elderly were in a REALLY bad situation.djc311 wrote: Wed Dec 10, 2025 11:53 amIt's crazy to hear this because the last one I attended was probably around 2009-2010. Some of this was adjusted for Sunday, and I understand it was better, but the crowd was also quite a bit smaller, as I understand. It was bad enought the air base issued a statment.
There is probably a lot better summary in the thread about the last show.

It’s the gov’t, can’t do many things right and certainly not on time or budget.
