When rolling in to work, I noticed the new digital sign at Old Mill Centre says "Welcome Schmitt Music to Old Mill Centre"

Schmitt Music's website says the current store on 74th and Dodge is having a relocation sale.

Same retail area as Cunningham's and the Social Security Building among other tenants.

I wonder just how many instruments they've rented to the K-12 band kids over the decades. It has to be in the tens of thousands by now. Especially before Dietze Music expanded to Omaha when Schmitt Music was sort of the only option in town.

we go to Schmitt a lot for my son's music stuff, they are really awesome over there. Sucks that they are going to be further away, but glad they are staying open

I’d assume it means time is short for both that building, the Five Guys building and the old Gadgeteer buildings. Likely another apartment building?

Noticed the other day when I was returning from that amazing new library that the Schmitt Music lot was completely full. Thought that was sort of odd during the middle of a weekday. Could have been library overflow I guess or maybe their relocation sale was just that good. I know their bread and butter has probably always been being the main supplier to OPS music programs and I hope that continues to be the case. However, it will be interesting to see what their new location brings. Seems like in the last 5-10 years they stopped competing directly with the likes of Dietz and Guitar Center for similar products in favor of the school partnership and programs. They were also still one of the main go to places in Omaha for pianos. You still can't beat a real piano for pureness and authenticity but with the incredible quality of the digitals these days that you never have to tune and can buy for a fraction of the price, not sure how many people are buying the real ones anymore. Looking forward to their new location and continued business.

Kind of late here, but this is more significant than being conveyed... maybe I'm only one old enough to have had some history here, but I had lessons in this same building as a kid over 50 years ago when it was locally owned Hospes Mr. Music, later bought by Minnesota based Schmitt. Not sure how far back past my experience it dates, but suffice it to say, a lot of music store history in this building.
