60 Animals were confiscated from a home near 195th & Pacific today. These included a zebra, emu, and Alpacas. It sounds like living conditions were far from ideal, and the animals were not well cared for.

While it may not be illegal to have most or all of what was confiscated, TAKE CARE OF THEM. This is not a remote rural location, so that compounds living conditions and should be ripe for turning it.

The Nebraska Humane Society confiscated several animals, including a zebra, from a West Omaha home on Thursday.

NHS said they received an anonymous tip about a residence near 195th and Pacific streets, northwest of Shadow Ridge Country Club, and obtained a warrant to search the property.

The smell is probably what gave it away this time of year. The property is an un-platted lot measuring 4.75 Acres, just east of the Fire Ridge Estates Neighborhood. I'm guessing with 4.75 Acres they were able to hid it a little better than most west of west Omaha.

Probably not as hard to get what was listed as you might think. There are plenty of petting zoos that travel to events that have many of these. It may not even be illegal. Google tells me that it is legal to own a zebra as a pet in Nebraska with a captive wildlife permit.

It raises another question I have asked for decades. Is internet service a utility or an optional service? Depending on when and who you ask, you will get two answers. Safe to say, lots of stuff wouldn't work without the internet, which makes it a non-optional utility for about everybody.


And, since it's a utility, it would be essential, and require oversight. Afterall, we pay all those FCC fees, right? Why aren't the "regulators" being proactive and punitive to the telecom companies operating on the slow and cheap? What does a "commissioner" in title even do?

What would you do if MUD was non-communicative and not distributing water for 2 weeks? The uproar would be different, and fast.
