An out-of-state developer wants to build nearly 200 apartments and a parking garage just east of downtown Lincoln.

The proposed development, which city officials estimate could cost as much as $38 million to build, would include three separate buildings with a total of 185 apartments on separate lots between 17th Street and Antelope Valley Parkway and O and Q streets.

The developers, who city Urban Development Director David Landis said are from Austin, Texas, are also proposing to build a multi-story parking garage to serve the residents of the apartments, which would be a combination of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units. The parking garage might also have some first-floor retail space, he said.
