Re: Irvington Fire Department
Just talked to a friend who Is a former Fire Chief in Papillion. He said that years ago Irvington fire and rescue invested their
Keno revenue in Berkshire Hathaway A, and is doing very well. Since this area is not in Omaha city limits he thinks they are contracting out with Omaha, and when Omaha does annex that area there might be some arrangements made, possibly including employment. Secondly, you can only be taken to the nearest Hospital, if you want to be taken to your insured care, you have to get secondary transportation once you are stable. He thinks this may be what Irvington is up to, and it is becoming a very lucrative business.

I know they proposed this a couple of years ago and needed to raise something like $2.5 million to get it going. Also I know they covered a lot of area but can’t find a map or description of what that area was.

I believe the planning for it started in 2009, and the Smokey Ridge Subdivision where it will be located also started construction around that time.Uffda wrote: Sat Jan 26, 2019 3:09 pm I know they proposed this a couple of years ago and needed to raise something like $2.5 million to get it going. Re: Irvington Fire Department
They've only built one house so far in Smoky Ridge just east of the site for the fire station. The idea was they would sell the remaining lots to volunteer fire fighters for quick access to the new station. The lots are pretty large lots since there is no sanitary sewer service in that area and each house will have its own septic system which takes more land than a typical subdivision lot. The area is very hilly too.Brad wrote: Mon Jan 28, 2019 6:51 pmI believe the planning for it started in 2009, and the Smokey Ridge Subdivision where it will be located also started construction around that time.Uffda wrote: Sat Jan 26, 2019 3:09 pm I know they proposed this a couple of years ago and needed to raise something like $2.5 million to get it going. The town of Irvington served the "Union" township. Townships are typically 5 square miles east-west by 6 square miles north-south in area.
Here's a 1938 map. you can see the Lonergan property in the Northeast part of the Union township. I think the Irvington FD serves roughly the area bound by Military on the south, Dutch Hall on the north, 60th st on the east, and 120th on the west. That's a pretty large area considering how much is slowly filling in with more development. It probably already takes them too long to get to the northeast areas served by Irvington FD.
