Newpark Dallas -- Lanoha Development

Found it interesting that Lanoha has made some marketing videos for a large mixed use development in downtown Dallas.

That is interesting. How were they able to convince that investment group to make them a partner? While I was hopeful for the Lanoha tower proposal, they have struggled to make progress over several years of owning it and the pandemic/recession may kill it.

I would like to know that too. They don't have much experience with huge projects like that or their proposal in Omaha, right? I was pretty hopeful for their latest proposal on the old UP site but that is fading for me. Maybe they will learn some things on this project in Dallas that will help them in Omaha.

This is a huge project, too. Just skipping 1st and 2nd base pretty quick.

In Dallas, huge projects like this pop up like dandelions in a summer field.. For Omaha, seemingly, It takes an act of Congress..

The Omaha UP high rise proposal really appears to be a pipe dream right now...

Dallas is just an economic juggernaut, I look for it to pass Chicago someday. It’s not the most beautiful looking city but they sure know how to make an economy hum and it remains affordable for a big metro.

Yeah, they added 1.2 million to their CSA in just the last nine years. Them, Austin, and Houston are just on a totally different level. Within the next decade there will be several cities that should surpass Chicago.

No question in my mind Dallas-Ft Worth and Houston will be leading the way there. And I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 5 years from now..The official 2020 Census numbers we’ll see in April will give us a more solid projection jumping point...

Population is one thing. GDP is another. It may be a long time, if ever, before Dallas eclipses Chicago.

That’s true. The bigger threat to eclipsing Chicago’s GDP looks like San Francisco-Oakland..but that’ll even take awhile...

With Lanoha attached to the new MoO HQ, I decided to look into their other large, ground up projects. None of them have gotten off the ground. It's interesting too; their big Omaha projects, the UP Site and the Rows at Heartwood Preserve, have similar Dallas counterparts in One Newpark and Live Grandscape. Maybe them getting the MoO HQ going and developed will help them get their other projects going because they can't seem to do it themselves.

I did come across this article criticizing the One Newpark project in Dallas that Lanoha is developing. This should interest all those who are design obsessed:

Came across some more Lanoha news on Reddit’s r/skyscrapers page.

I'm not 100% sure I agree with everything in that article. Most of Dallas' design is just 100 year mistakes (the freeways, the lack of a real downtown outside of office space, with suburbs that offer a more vibrant resident life).

It's coming along, and getting better every year. But the urban planning, IMO failed that city, and necessitates the podium parking (tumor or not). The inner courtyard area is a great addition though, and the writer would be better off advocating for infill to serve the core than overly criticizing this development imo.
