Tree removal on 120th?

Does anybody know why all the trees are being cut down on 120th street between Blondo and Maple?

We had tree removal services in my west O neighborhood today up and down my street, likely due to the wind damage from the storm last weekend. They clipped multiple limbs and branches off one of my backyard pine trees and hauled everything away...

From the photos posted, its way too far south for that.

Looking at Google Street View, a lot of them look like Ash Trees.

That run of trees is a tasty treat for the Japanese Beatles every year. I'm no arborist, but perhaps they have permanent damage from lack of foliage.

I just walked by again today. They are continuing to cut down more trees by Culver's.

So sad that they choose to remove trees instead of treat them. Kansas City and Milwaukee have been treating their Ash Trees for years to great success.

They've been doing this for 5-7 years now. I understand removing the trees that are in bad locations or in bad shape, but to just remove them out of fear is nonsense.

Yeah, they've been doing this a while now. I get preventatively removing them when they're near streets and utilities, but they've also just been removing them all from some parks I've seen. They had removed or are planning to remove some perfectly unaffected ash trees, I guess for the sake of just getting it done and over with. Seems overly aggressive to me. You never know, those trees could go unaffected tor years or decades, but yeah, let's just cut em all down.

Totally right. Plus, treatment is easier to budget for rather than taking a big expense up front to remove and replace. The other thing not considered is the other benefits of a mature tree such as storm water retention, wonderful shade, energy savings. Gretna was even more agressive and removed all their Ash Trees. Ridiculously shortsighted.

The people pushing for removal are the guys that make more money now to remove it rather than treating.
