Nebraska High School Club Hockey

[Greg S]

If anyone is looking to watch some free hockey tonight, the Nebraska High School state championship game is tonight. It's Omaha Metro (club team for OPS students, but also have 2 players from Gretna, 1 from Springfield and 1 Bel East) vs Creighton Prep. It's in the main arena at Ralston starting at 7:15. Admission is free for students. They are not charging adults either but are taking a couple bucks from those that want to donate, with funds going to scholarships for graduating seniors.

The league has teams from Westside, Millard North, Millard South, Millard West, Elkhorn (for all 3 Elkhorn high schools) Papio (for both Papio high schools), Gretna (the newest team), Fremont, 2 teams from Lincoln, Tri City (Kearney, Grand Island, North Platter and surrounding area) along with Prep and Metro. If a kid plays that doesn't go to one of those high schools they get drafter. Prep is the only team that every player on the roster goes to Prep.

The championship is named after Daegan Page who played in the league while in high school. His family will be there for the ceremonial puck drop.

Full disclosure, I am Metro's head coach and a Omaha Central alum.

Any questions, let me know.
