Caden VerMaas chooses Nebraska becoming first commitment in 2025 class for Huskers

Last October, Nebraska interim head coach Mickey Joseph extended an offer to 2025 safety Caden VerMaas from Omaha (Neb.) Millard North. When there is a head coaching change, there isn’t a guarantee that you will be re-offered. Matt Rhule and his staff connected quickly with VerMaas though which isn’t a surprise based on Rhule’s tendencies to target recruits with speed. VerMaas plays fast.

Nebraska is off and running in the 2025 class picking up its first commitment from an in-state target. VerMaas, a 6-foot-0 and 195-pound athlete figures into playing in the secondary at the next level, likely at a safety position.

2025 OL/DL Tyson Terry commits to Nebraska on visit

Nebraska is homegrown in 2025. The Huskers have landed its second in-state commitment for the class of 2025 after Tyson Terry committed to Nebraska while on a visit Tuesday. The three-star defensive lineman from Omaha (Neb.) North visited Nebraska eight times before committing to Matt Rhule and his staff.

Terry is the second in-state commitment in the class of 2025, joining Caden VerMaas from Omaha (Neb.) Millard North as the first two commits in Matt Rhule’s class of 2025. Terry has held an offer from Nebraska since the end of his freshman season at Omaha North. He is the son of former, two-time Nebraska high school wrestling champion Ryan Terry, who also starred at Omaha North.

Class of 2025 quarterback Stone Saunders of Harrisburg (PA) Bishop McDevitt High narrowed his list to 5 schools. The 6-foot-3, 210 pounder is down to the following: Georgia, Michigan, Miami, Kentucky, and Nebraska.

Matt Rhule & Nebraska Football land commitment from in-state running back recruit Conor Booth

Nebraska offered running back Conor Booth this summer following an impressive camp performance in Lincoln. The 6-foot-1.5 and 212-pound running back prospect for the Huskers played fullback last year for Wahoo (Neb.) Bishop Neumann. The Huskers have told Booth they can see him as a running back doing fullback-type things. Booth is the third commitment in the 2025 class for Nebraska.

Dawson Merritt Has High Praise for Huskers Staff Following His Top-10 Schools Release

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have been pushing really hard for a specific four-star recruit who recently released his top 10 schools. Dawson Merritt is a four-star linebacker from Blue Valley High School in Overland Park, Kansas. He measures in at around 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds and is a Nebraska lean at this moment alongside the Kansas Jayhawks, who are a serious threat.

The Huskers currently sit at 45th in the nation for 2025 recruiting, according to 247Sports, as they have three commits (Tyson Terry, Caden VerMaas and Conor Booth). Nebraska finished 23rd in the 2024 class.

Lincoln (Neb.) Southwest three-star athlete Jackson Carpenter has committed to Nebraska, he tells On3’s Hayes Fawcett. He chose the hometown Cornhuskers over Kansas. Carpenter is the No. 408 overall prospect and No. 20 athlete in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 3 player in Nebraska.

Nebraska football added more speed to its 2025 recruiting class on Sunday as Maize (Kan.) wide receiver Bryson Hayes announced his commitment to the Huskers. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Hayes chose the Huskers over Kansas, Kansas State and others. “I connected with Coach (McGuire) the receivers coach and Coach Rob (Dvoracek) who recruits my area a lot. Coach Rhule and all of them have been on me from the start when the offered me at camp last summer. Nebraska is a sleeping giant that's about to wake up,” Hayes told 247Sports.

The commitment ends a courtship with Nebraska that began last summer at a Husker football camp. Hayes ran a blistering 40-time to catch the attention of Nebraska’s staff, and earned his offer that day.

Hayes is a three-star prospect with an overall rating of 86, according to 247Sports. His pledge gives Nebraska five commits in its 2025 recruiting class.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Southwest Junior Athlete/Safety, Jackson Carpenter, announced via social media his commitment to Nebraska. Jackson is the son of notable Huskers starting tight end Tim Carpenter (1993-97). Jackson Carpenter has been a standout receiver and safety for the Silver Hawks seeing playing time as just a freshman. It was just announced that Iowa State and Kansas State will play in Ireland for the opening of the 2025 season.

AMES, Iowa (KCRG) - The 2024 college football season may not have kicked off yet, but the Iowa State Cyclones already know where they’ll be in August 2025.

University leaders said the Cyclones will open the 2025 season against Kansas State in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic on August 23, 2025 at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.

I wonder how/why they come up with the teams they come up with to play in this game. I guess because there are so many teams in college it’s a lot harder to have teams with connections to the location of the game than it is when the pro leagues do their international games.

Littleton (Colo.) Heritage athlete Tanner Terch is still thinking about his visit to Nebraska last Thursday. He can still feel that feeling in downtown Lincoln. Terch left Lincoln with an offer from the Huskers and has added his name to the 2025 commitment list. He is the sixth commitment in the commitment class

The three-star recruit is the seventh member of the class, joining Conor Booth, Jackson Carpenter, Bryson Hayes, Tyson Terry, Bear Tenney and Caden VerMaas in Nebraska's 2025 class.

Orange County (Calif.) Lutheran High School quarterback TJ Lateef is the latest commitment for the Nebraska 2025 recruiting class. Lateef officially visited Nebraska over the weekend of the spring game. He becomes the eighth known commitment in the 2025 recruiting class for Nebraska. Things have been very quiet with TJ Lateef since his official visit to Nebraska the weekend of April 25th. Lateef was in Lincoln to see the annual red-white spring game and was part of the first group of official visitors that Nebraska hosted for the 2025 class.

Huskers offer '25 D-line prospect after camp in Texas

Nebraska made an intriguing 2025 offer on Monday, with Konstantin Paschos receiving an opportunity from the Big Red after camping before NU staff at the Mary Hardin-Baylor camp in Belton, Texas. Originally a native of Germany, Paschos reported receiving the offer from Husker D-line coach Terrance Knighton after a great conversation. He attends the same Choate Rosemary Hall preparatory school in Wallingford, Conn., that includes John F. Kennedy as an alumnus, among many well-known names. Paschos certainly has more promise on the D-line than Kennedy. The lineman is a self-reported 6-7, 235 pounds with a 40 time of 4.71 and shuttle of 4.19. We have a message out to Paschos to hopefully gain more insights into his recruitment and football story.

I heard on KFAB this week from Sean Callahan that Nebraska still needs to trim its roster before fall by over 30 players to get down to the new requirement of 105. So we will still see a ton of transfers out of the program in the coming months.

They are not alone in needing to do that by a long shot.

Unfortunately, with the mandated reduced rosters for all, not everyone will have spots to land and will just be done with Football, especially in Nebraska's case with a number of walk-ons.

Isn't this a great improvement for the players?

Didn't want to start a new topic for this, so going to just add this here.

Lee Corso is retiring after Game 1 of the next College Football season.
Assume that this one-game thing is so they can give him an on-air send-off.

I listened to him a long time ago, but less so over the last few years, as I don't watch the commentary on ESPN much anymore.

From what little I have seen in the last few years, he probably should have hung it up already a few years ago. That being said, I wish him well in what he does as he truly retires. I saw that he started on GameDay in 1987. It was quite a run, and he has seen MANY changes. He turns 90 in August also.

Also, the kickoff for Iowa on Black Friday will be at 11 AM on CBS Nov 28
Michigan in Lincoln will be at 2:30 on CBS Sept 20

I am not a fan of Friday night games. But if we do have them, I'd rather they be road games. Though Minnesota is one of the easier to drive to conference opponents, so a bit of a bummer it's a Friday.

Friday night is for High School Football I hate the Friday night games. I give a pass to black Friday because it is a tradition and to many people (not all) still a holiday It is all about the $$$ and do understand why they need the time slot but do not have to like it

I'm no fan of Friday night games. They usually assign them to lesser performing teams, and I think the Skers have had one every year the last decade or so.

I'm just not a fan of night games in general anymore. Older I get, the less appealing it is to watch a game til 11. Especially with how long and drawn out college games are, and how bad the product has been in recent years.

Actually I think a big factor is seniority as well. The new teams to the league from the PAC 12 also got placed on Friday's last year, including Oregon.

For attending, I like one or two night games, and more and it becomes an issue as they take a lot out of me the next day. I love road games at night because it frees the whole day up.
