I was reading this last night and although I can appreciate the idea of trying to address a shortfall of funds, to basically penalize and cancel a relationship with a local vendor to try and save yourself an insignificant fraction of a percentage is pretty ridiculous.
They said their shortfall is $38 million? Let's say the new vendor supplies them with an additional $20k in net proceeds. How much of a dent does that equate to on $38 million?
If I were a student at UNO I'd try to start planning ahead as they may make some additional changes such as rationing toilet paper in the RRs, leaving the lights off during class to reduce electrical costs and stopping their shuttle service across campuses.

Re: Baxter Arena Commencement Floral Vendor Partnership
While it doesn't go very far towards addressing the University's budget issues, it is a small contribution. It's been known for a long while that the financials of Baxter Arena haven't matched the expectations set when it was proposed. It's required an influx of funds from the University to balance the budget since it opened, so when UNO gets an opportunity to cut that deficit, that's a good thing for the University. Sucks for this vendor; I get that. But it's not the university's job to keep this local business operating.

Sounds like a helluva lot more mismanagement of funds than commencement flowers.HskrFanMike wrote: Sun Mar 24, 2024 2:08 pm While it doesn't go very far towards addressing the University's budget issues, it is a small contribution. To each their own, but it’s a shitty move on UNO’s part, especially when they try to claim “promote local”.
