Went with a group for lunch about a week ago. Really enjoyed it. For me, and I must qualify it’s after one visit, it’s my favorite buffet in town.

That I couldn't answer. For work if I went to a buffet in Bellevue I would go to the China Buffet on 370. Now that that this is open I won't go back to that one. I guess whether there's a lot of competition or not, I thought Golden Apple was really good and will definitely go back. I was with a group of 6 that included 2 from out of town. Everyone liked it.nebugeater wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 6:47 pmHow low is the bar? Are there really that many buffet's still operating?

Remember the lunch buffet at Hunan Palace at 84th & Hwy 370? They closed the buffet during COVID and never reopened it. That buffet was like $6 (after tax) or something absurdly cheap like that. lol After a quick google, I see it's now permanently closed. Not sure if this is the start of a chain or a one-off local, but it looks like there is a second location in the works. Not in the Omaha metro, though.
I used to live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, many years ago, and I still follow a couple of things there. This caught my eye in a news story from yesterday. The logo jumped out at me, so I read the story.
A Golden Apple Buffet is going to open in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The story says there is not much info yet, but they reference the one in Papillion with the same name and logo. Location is stated as 3998 Westdale Pkwy SW, Suite 100 in Cedar Rapids for those that know CR. This would be the Westdale area where the Wesdale Mall once existed.

Most of those buffets are going to use a program from one of the major food truck companies. When I go to my local joint once or twice per year, I joke that I'm getting the best Sysco Chinese food that money can buy.

When you say Food Truck Sysco is not what first comes to mindjessep28 wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2024 6:57 pm Most of those buffets are going to use a program from one of the major food truck companies. Re: Golden Apple Buffet (Papillion)
Let's be honest. That's every restaurant now. Most of your sides and appetizers just come frozen in a box or a bag on the Sysco (or US Foods, or whomever) truck and go straight into a deep fryer and then to your table and then they stick it to you for $10+. Fewer and fewer restaurants make anything from scratch. It just comes on a truck and then gets heated. It's not much different than the "boxed dinners" and frozen food section at your local warehouse store or grocery store. Chains are probably the worst for it (though, they'd tell you it's for product consistency), but more and more independent restaurants do this. That’s sad to hear. While it was never a favorite Chinese spot of mine it was fast and decent quality, and when I worked at the courthouse you would ALWAYS see familiar faces dining there. They also took a lot of customer photos and stuck them under the glass table tops or in the wall by the door, as I recall. I was captured for posterity in a few of those photos.ChadJK wrote: Mon Jul 01, 2024 10:34 amRemember the lunch buffet at Hunan Palace at 84th & Hwy 370? Re: Golden Apple Buffet (Papillion)
We've been here a couple times now. This place is CRAZY busy on the weekends. They have your standard Chinese buffet items, plus also have a Hibachi, Pho/Ramen, and Sushi section. The place appears to be a huge success.
