Chi Chi's Mexican resturaunt

It looks like the Chi Chi's restaurant chain is coming back to life.

Hormel Foods, who now owns the rights and uses it to make and market the products under that name in grocery stores, has reached an agreement with the son of the original co-founder to restart the restaurant, and it sounds like there will be multiple locations. Interesting to see how this unfolds and is received. Also, to see how it compares the Chi Chi's we remember

I'm not sure about Omaha, but it was about 20 years ago when the last one's closed.

I moved back to Nebraska in 1999; honestly, I do not remember if they were still open here then. I think there was one open In Lincoln at that time.


We were in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for quite a few years before moving back to Nebraska. We ate at that location many time

It was where the Charleston's at 75th and Dodge is now. I'm guessing it closed in the 90s.

I can't really disagree, but 25 years ago in Cedar Rapids, IA, they were a reasonable option.

Their fried ice cream blew my mind in like 1994. I cannot imagine this is going to end well, people are understandably over bad restaurant chains.

I grew up in very rural southeast Nebraska. St Joe and Lincoln were the closest cities about an hour to an hour and a half away. Even Applebees was good back then. I recall as a teenager going to one and ordering a chocolate shake and their cajun chicken pasta. It was mindblowing! I couldn't believe people used things to season their food besides salt, pepper, and the occasional lawry's.

Early 90s. I think it became an Old Country Buffet afterwards.

Hormel’s been selling Chi-Chi’s brand products, like salsa, since 1987. Someone’s been buying it all these years. Maybe there’s a market today, if you put them in the right locations.

Now having said that, I don’t think Omaha would be one of those locations. Too many other good choices.

Wow a name I haven't heard in awhile but it came up in many conversations with my group and I over the years in Minneapolis. I moved from Omaha to Minneapolis in '99 and Chi Chi's was poppin. Loved it! But I'm not talking about the food. I'm sure it was good but Chi Chi's in Twin Town was known for it's fabulous Thursday Night 80's throwback dance parties. It was fun. I remember it to this day that it was a major downer they closed up there. Like I said ppl up there still talk about it.
