Owned by Kathy Mowinkel-Braga, this bar and grill has been around for 30 years. It was previously known as Wagon Wheel before it was Brag N Rights and I heard there was even a short-lived Italian restaurant in-between. The building is quite old and was actually moved to the current location. Rumor has it the building rests on old tree stumps.
Anyway, it's a bit of an icon of "old Gretna" and is closing down. The building has been leased to a guy that was affiliated with Addy's in some fashion and he will be turning it into a sports bar.
I just wanted to get it in the annals of eOmahaForums.

Interesting. That has been around a long time in a location that could be really great if Gretna put some effort into "Main Street."
B. Douglas has bought several of the "main street" buildings, renovated them, and is charging I think $200/sf to lease them.

I do like what is happening. Believe they are taking some of the street parking back to angle from straight in too.

For the record NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER !!!!!!!
The new sports bar and grill replacing it will be called Kathy's to honor the previous owner (and it's a bit of marketing move as most of Brag N Rights regulars and many people around Gretna always referred to Brag N Rights as "Kathy's" anyway. So, when people say "Lets go to Kathy's" everyone already knows where that is). Renovation is taking longer than expected. The original plan was two weeks (new owner must not be doing much) which would have put their opening on 7/12 and that didn't happen.
Always thought it would be cool to put a store along one of the old "main" streets in a place like downtown Elkhorn or Gretna. Unfortunately, they're all being bought and leased out for ridiculous rent rates. It's not sustainable for most.
Sure, the landlord wants to make a lot of $$$, but at the same time, the business owner renting the space should be able to make similar profits (IMO). But I suppose it really never works out that way - the property owner will nearly always do better than the renter.

I don't know. People take out 5 year leases on brand new strip mall units that require a full build-out as all they are is a bare concrete floor and exposed rafters and wall studs. Heck, people construct buildings on leased land.

There is a thread on Nextdoor for Gretna that indicates they are all in, and this is a stretch. A person that works with the new business owner in the past and is going there also has been responding

It looks like the reopening under new ownership and a new name has been pushed back to mid-August. They missed out on a lot of revenue not being open during Gretna Days.
