Totally agree. I'm a big fan of football, but that doesn't necessarily translate into deep knowledge so his ELI5 approach/insight to strategy is pretty great.

I'd Take Romo over many of the announcers today... if you wish too hard, they'll bring back Dennis Miller... and we all know how well that worked out!

As a Cowboys fan, I mostly approve of this message.. With the exception of Troy being irritating. I like him in the booth as well..

Of course, NO NFL BROADCAST BOOTH TEAM replaces the great Pat Summerall and the great John Madden…

admittedly, the joe buck component represents the majority of my irritation with them as a duo. I don't know what it is, but it feels like he's trying too hard.

No mention of Chris Collinsworth? Of the big three, I find him most annoying. By leaps and bounds. Mainly cause he's in bed with Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Romo was the first time I had seen anybody call out the play before it happened and points out when they make a bad read. Tom Brady, all business, no trying to be popular.

As a 49ers fan, I could care less that Romo played for Dallas. I generally have no issues with Aikman. I wouldn't say he's particularly great and he's sometimes predictable but he's also not annoying and distracting like Romo. I may be in the minority about Romo on this board but a lot of NFL fans can't stand him either. Even some who used to think he was good now feel he's digressed to the point of awful.

Some of the common complaints reference his weird noises, captain obvious comments and sometimes gleeful fawning over The Chiefs and Mahomes. There's a reason they've won a few Super Bowls and have been frequent contenders. Yeah, we get it!

So what if he's got a good knowledge of the game, that's doesn't make him a good announcer. Brady obviously has a good knowledge too but he's somehow less annoying even with his sometimes smug tone.

I can't stand the way Romo says "Jim" excessively. For example, HOW MANY TIMES TONY ROMO SAYS, "JIM." He'll talk about a play for presumedly the benefit of the viewer, but the way he goes on and on to "Jim", it's as if Jim Nantz had never seen a football game.

Now I think back to how often Romo had a rosey glow at halftime...perhaps because he was half in the bag.



Sure Buck sucks too but at least he's easier to ignore. The only commentator I can think of more irritating than Romo is Stu Holden during the World Cup. That guy never shuts up! His voice was so grating that I switched over to Telemundo.

As far as the season goes... As a Lions and Patriots fan...

Lions and Chiefs are back in the playoffs after both having utterly disappointing seasons. I'm saying 12-5 for both.

Patriots won't make it back to the SB. Rationally one would think given last years easy schedule, and this upcoming season's 6th toughest schedule will knock some of the air out of them. Wild card team, 10-7.

I dont want to say this... My SB prediction is Rams-Chiefs. What I do like to say is the Chiefs won't win it. Itll be another no-show from the Chiefs. They've lost every time they played a defense. Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett. Rams 30-10.

Can't wait to see it all unfold, and you never know what can happen. So, I will hope for a Lions-Patriots SB. I can't lose. Though if that were to happen, I lean more rooting for the Lions, because my desire to see the Lions finally win one outweighs the Patriots getting yet another. Patriots will win another by February 2030. Maybe sooner.

It's like watching the game with an old college buddy who while knowledgable, never out grew the college party life.



I will also add that I have nothing against him otherwise, though it seems he has a problem and needs some help. Should he lose his job over the booze incident? A lot of other celebrities have done much dumber shat and didn't get canned (but maybe cancelled).

I just generally don't get why networks cram ex-players down our ears like it's a selling point to watch a game. People actually go to broadcasting school and it's not like we have a choice to watch the same game on a different outlet(generally) with other commentators that aren't celebrity ex-players. Ernie Johnson didn't play in the NBA and he's not just knowledgable but also a phenomenal sportscaster.

I dont think he should lose his job over it, it's not like he was driving commercially, which would be immediate termination. I think they should give him a chance to clean up. Then if he refuses or it doesnt work, then can him. Its not like he's a bad role model. You cant top Taylor Swift with all the young people she influences, and she gets drunk every game

Here's a hot one. Sounds unbelievable, but I really think the Patriots will be a dynasty again, soon. I know nobody else wants to hear it. They're just too good not to. Vrabel is the real deal. I think by 2031 we will be talking about in what ways this dynasty is better than both of the of the previous two. And we'll really be comparing Drake Maye to Tom Brady. You know what the stats will say? He's even better. The Patriots will supplant the Chiefs, and Mahomes will ride out the rest of his contract without winning another Super Bowl. Morphs into Aaron Rodgers.

I know, I know. Just wanted to say it so we can come back here years down the road.
