They're finally going to complete converting US 77 into a full freeway next year. Personally, I think they should've done it years ago when they first built it.
This is not the final plan. It's just a preliminary one.

But I must say I disagree with the plan to just cut off Old Cheney in that area. They should just make it an overpass above US 77.

Sure. You're welcome. Like I said, they should've done this years ago when they originally built it. I mean make it a full freeway from I-80 to either Saltillo or Roca Roads.Nebraska>Iowa wrote: Fri Apr 19, 2024 9:34 pmThanks for sharing.mrsticka wrote: Fri Apr 19, 2024 7:14 pm They're finally going to complete converting US 77 into a full freeway next year. It wasn't as big of a deal when 77 was built. Now with all the money spent on the new Highway 2, its way more important to have that section of 77 built up to freeway standards.

Old Cheney is planned to be cut off from 14th & Old Cheney, so why build an overpass?mrsticka wrote: Fri Apr 19, 2024 7:14 pm They're finally going to complete converting US 77 into a full freeway next year. Personally, I think they should've done it years ago when they first built it.

It doesn't look like they are, they show a cul-de-sac and a t-intersection on Cheney so it looks like they are just shutting off access for Cheney to 77.EricHaley wrote: Sat Apr 20, 2024 12:44 amOld Cheney is planned to be cut off from 14th & Old Cheney, so why build an overpass?mrsticka wrote: Fri Apr 19, 2024 7:14 pm They're finally going to complete converting US 77 into a full freeway next year. Old Cheney’s kind of an important road in that area. Lots of drivers use it daily. I don’t think they’ll want to have to drive all the way up to Pioneers Blvd or down to Warlick. So yes, an overpass is necessary. And I’m not the only one who thinks that.

I used to live in that area. They don’t want people using Old Cheney west of 14th, which is why they built Warlick. It’s only about 1/4 mile longer and there’s a bridge over the tracks.mrsticka wrote: Sat Apr 20, 2024 5:34 pm Old Cheney’s kind of an important road in that area. Lots of drivers use it daily. Cutting off Old Cheney will add traffic to Warlick and Pioneers. And that would be particularly bad for Pioneers because it's only 2 lanes.

It’s intended to reroute traffic to Warlick, which has four lanes (annd shoulders) and there’s no train crossing. I don’t see what the complaint is here.mrsticka wrote: Sun Apr 21, 2024 12:12 am Cutting off Old Cheney will add traffic to Warwick and Pioneers. Glad they’re turning 77 into freeway but I agree that the interacting street system doesn’t make sense.
I really don’t get why Old Cheney and Pine Lake weren’t planned as the major east/west routes to intersect with 77.

Cutting off Old Cheney would be like cutting off Q Street when I-80 was first built. Most people thought I and L Streets would be the busy streets. They were right about L, but not I. Q ended up having more traffic.

Re: US 77/West Beltway Proposal
At a bare minimum, Old Cheney needs to have a bridge over highway 77 for connectivity. Looking at the map, as lincoln develops over the next 30 years south and west, old Cheney is the only straight through, east-west road.mrsticka wrote: Sun Apr 21, 2024 4:23 pm Cutting off Old Cheney would be like cutting off Q Street when I-80 was first built.
