We should have DTO "accidentally" drive into them w/o stopping, causing them to lose all signatures they had.Brad wrote:Cowboy, They are in your neighborhood today. There is a guy on the corner of 122 and Center.

Accidentally?
I see they're still taking signatures over my birthday. Maybe I'll go around town and steal all the petitions and throw them in the river from the pedestrian bridge.

Haha! What's funny is that, if they want to get signatures they are going to have to hit a much better area than 122nd and Center!!! That part of town, I imagine, is completely for the new stadium and such.. They are going to have to stick with Elkhorn, and way way west O and the immediate Rosenblatt area!DTO Luv wrote:Accidentally?I see they're still taking signatures over my birthday. There is no way they are going to get enough signatures, lol, I know some people who wouldn't vote for Fahey again (mistake in my mind), but said that it isn't right to petition them out for these type of things.
The people that I know that hate Fahey said that he has done things to anger them, but he hasn't done anything scandelous or at least enough to warrant a petition..
OH, and happy B-Day DTO! How old does that make you?

Thanks. My birthday is April 21st and I'll be 22. I'm in good company having the same birthday as Queen Elizabeth, Hitler, and OmahajaysCU.

Hitler's birthday is the 20th. Queen Elizabeth (the 1st) was born on September 7th. Try Google, it works. :;):DTO Luv wrote:Thanks. My birthday is April 21st and I'll be 22. I'm in good company having the same birthday as Queen Elizabeth, Hitler, and OmahajaysCU.
EDIT: Wow, way of topic huh? Back to dumb people wanting to recall the mayor.

I think it's too late in the recall effort for anything to really change the number of signatures gathered so here it goes;
I've heard that the majority of the signatures are from Elkhorn residents and that their signatures are not valid due to the fact they were not part of the city when the Mayor was elected or they are not valid as they can't legally vote until next year's election. I don't know if this is true but its what I've been hearing and that is why the Mayor is not too concerned. Anyone know if this is true or not? I have doubts because I would have thought that one of the news sources in this city would have reported that.
Again, this is just a rumor I've heard and in no way know if it holds any water.

I think you might be on to something there. I thought I remember hearing something about the election rules during the annexation.

I think it would be freaking hilarious if it turns out to be true. There would be some extremely p!ssed off folks in Elkhorn.
Especially if they thought they had enough signatures.

THere may be truth to that. If it's a recall election that means you're not happy with what you got. If "you" weren't around the first time, I don't see why "you" would get a say.

That would be so awesome if this is true - most of the signatures to recall Fahey from Elkhorn.
It would be plausible - if you were not eligible to elect an official, how could you recall him?
When are the signatures due in?

So out of curiosity, I joined the recall-fahey yahoo group, and came across something very interesting/scary.
If this doesn't work, they will try to recall each of the 4 council members who are in support of the stadium (Welch, Brown, Segerson, and Vokal)!
Funny, because I thought this was "not just about the stadium"

They need to update their site, there are now 5 council members that support it. Suttle is now behind it and don't count out Thompson from coming around.
They truly are gang of idiots.

Some of the opinions toward Elkhorn and their "rights" is really sad. What is done is done, weather you agree or not. If I were from what once was Elkhorn and logged on here what about many of the statements here would make me feel like I really should like being part of Omaha? Some of these comments, here and in other threads, come from people that seem to state they are 100% pro Omaha and stand behind everything Omaha. I think not. Elkhorn is now Omaha, The Law is the Law, some people need to stop and think about what they are saying and treat Elkhorn like they are part of Omaha too in what they say and do. You can't just have their tax $$$ and boundary lines. There will be some that want to reply "well they deserve it because of what a FEW people said and did in Elkhorn. If you want to take that stand and stand behind your comments I guess you just joined they style that some love to ridicule. STOP AND THINK

I fully embrace Elkhorn as a part of Omaha, but I doubt most of Elkhorn is ready to reciprocate. I believe there's a soreness that will wear off with time, but if its in fact true that many of the recall sigs are from Elkhorn, I highly doubt it has to do with anything other than the annexation.
I have to wonder if your fervor here has anything to do with Gretna's proximity to Elkhorn?

The thing is, Elkhorn did it to themselves. Elkhorn could have chosen to follow the path of Ralston, and stay the size they were. (They probably sealed their fate about 5-10 years ago when they annexed down to Pacific Street, though...) They forced the issue, and lost. They knew the consequences of their actions, and still did it anyway. If they are upset over it, they need to look at their former city leaders. If they hadn't started the annexation war, Elkhorn would still be a separate city today. But I guess since those former city leaders aren't in office anymore, there isn't anybody else they can take their frustrations out against.

If you think my comments are based on the Gretna / Elkhorn similarities you are mistaken, but believe what you want. I do not think that you will find me stating anywhere on here that the the annexation was wrong or a big Neg. I can see both POS and NEG to what happened and what may happen in Gretna with some law changes some day. When we moved back to Nebraska we looked in Omaha, Gretna, Elkhorn, Papilion, and other places and ended up in Gretna, I am happy there but would be just as happy with another choice I am sure. Is there really that much difference between one and the other?
MY point is 100% don't throw the general population of Elkhorn under the bus for the action of a few. The statements made do nothing but feed the exact things that some outlying people stereotype about Omaha. IS that really the objective of of the PRO Omaha people here that make the statement?

I believe you. I made that suggestion because I used to live in Gretna as well. I know that with all of the westward growth there's an anxiety among many about Gretna's fate considering both how big it has become and the Elkhorn annexation.
I agree, but I don't see anyone here hating on Elkhorn. Someone posted a rumor which may or may not be true. Honestly, I hope it is true, because a sad day in Omaha it will be if this blight-full recall ignorance is given the time of day. And if it is, I'll think nothing less of Elkhorn as a whole.nebugeater wrote:MY point is 100% don't throw the general population of Elkhorn under the bus for the action of a few.

I was driving by all the "Usual" locations for the petition in my hood. I spent several hours downtown(old market, riverfront, glm) and I went to the Omaha Royal's baseball game......
I DID NOT SEE A SINGLE PETITION YESTERDAY!!!!!
I think they gave up!

By the time the law changes Gretna should be well over 10,000 people (not annexable), right now the city has about 8,000

Right now Gretna is between 4,500 - 5,000. These are numbers recently published in Gretna. If you can find something that stats it is that high as an official pop. I would love to see it. If you take the adjoining areas in to account that are not annexed in and still A SID or a part of the county then the number is probably around 8,000.Erik wrote:nebugeater wrote:nebport5 wrote:nebugeater wrote:Some of the opinions toward Elkhorn and their "rights" is really sad. Gretna is just under 6,000... I could have sworn it was 8,000

I'm guessing they aren't anywhere near the amount of sigs needed. They have this on there front page.
We need to get 21,734 valid signatures by tomorrow in order to force a recall election of Mayor Mike Fahey
They are also claiming that residents in what used to be Elkhorn's sigs are valid. I wonder if the site will remain up after they bomb. That site is quite comical. There even attacking KFAB now.

I bet they have so few signatures that they don't even turn the petitions in. We will probably never know how few they had.

On the news last night they showed their press conference with maybe 15 in attendance. They still would not say what their numbers were because they still had sheets out. They will collect them this evening and hand them in tomorrow.

Fox 42 just interviewed someone on the committee. He started off "No matter which way the vote will go it proves that people are upset with Mayor Fahey. They also said that they may not release the number of signatures when they hand it in tomorrow because some may not be valid.
